this is what I am thinking. I want to file my own modification for visitation since he moved out of state. I'm going with the standard long distance plan plus I'm adding the written notification and health insurance changes.

I don't see the ex wanting to challenge this since it really makes him less responsible and I'll have more control over issues since he's not there.

I found some forms online which work for the state that I am in. In fact, these were right on the AG's website.

Ok, I'm not a lawyer or have a law degree, however, I don't want to spend the down payment I'm saving for my own home + I'm trying to reduce debt--school loans.

Anyway, i complete the forms, what's next? I don't know what the process is.

I think all you have to do is file a motion. You dont always need a lawyer. This sounds uncomplicated, especially if you dont think the ex will contest it.
"Anyone can file a motion." is what I've been told. Thats in my state anyway.

Thank you The sane one

I'm wondering if I can find a "Do it yourself visitation modification for dummies" guide with step by step instructions that actually work.

Maybe I can write one as I go through this process.

Typically, you'd just have to fill out the proper forms and have it filed with the court clerk's office with a filing fee, they'll set the date for the hearing. Should be easy enough especially if he isn't contesting it.
I filed for and got custody of my daughter, without a lawyer.

Thanks Don,

After calling 3 lawyers and finding out it cost about $3,000 to even start this, I wanted to see how far I can do this on my own. I'm on the county clerks office web-page now.
