Women have sucked me dry....all they'd get is air....

It's all good though...so everyone give give give....

Sarah your brother is a soldier and you've never given blood...shame on you...
You should talk to the red cross or local blood bank and organize a drive for family and co-workers...

well bug, that's sort of the silly point of it all. one beer after giving blood and it had better be my big brother next to me. otherwise i'm throwing on a red dress and saying 'how YOU doin?' as the cheapest date ever!

we used to get special cards each time we hit a gallon. then pins for 5, 10, 20 gallons. now the budget is low so they just remember us - which is fine with me. lol.

the last time my mom almost died she needed half a dozen transfusions as well as plasma. i've always wanted to do the platelet thing, but it is hours and i've never had that much time. sad. my mom would have died without it so i am glad someone else took the time....

hb i cant imagine you are sucked dry - you still seeem pretty full of it to me!!! giggle.

our appt is 7pm if anyone is interested! Love

I used to give blood every 8 weeks & got all those stickers / pins too LC. Then I started doing the plasma donations once or twice a week - must say the $200 or so of extra cash you can make per month was nice. Plus gives you a nice chance to relax and read a book for an hour. Would be nice if I still had time to get there now, but between working & my kids it just doesn't fit. Still can see the big hole (port) in my arm from that big ole needle though. Next time they do a blood drive at work I'll have to go back to doing that.

I really should give blood. I have awesome veins for it, but am deathly afraid of needles. I need to get over that.

Well jeez I didn't work there, just bled there. Maybe had to do with the cycles - they draw out the plasma (ends up being about a liter bottle every donation) & then do a return of your red blood cells along with saline, then repeat. Do it enough times and just forms a nice hole where they always stick you. I have good veins too, so when someone new would start I'd usually be the guinea pig - let 'em stick Paul ! It's great to watch that shaky hand ready to spear a needle into your arm, amazing how some of them could miss such an easy target - being infiltrated by a needle is not a pleasant experience ! But no, I didn't mean to imply that the needle was HUGE or anything, and it certainly doesn't hurt - it can feel a little odd having a needle stuck in your arm for a whole hour, and you have to pump your fist the whole time during draws, and the saline is COLD - but that's about it.

I'm a blood giver too, in fact I need to check my calendar but I don't think it's been 8 weeks since I last gave. I've never gotten stickers or pins, here it's tshirts with the standard cookies/crackers/juice. However I love the shirts, nice and comfy and something to sleep in. I've never given plasma but I'll have to check into it.

I wish I could give bood but I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles and seeing blood. I actually cried and had to be conjoled into giving blood samples when I was pregnant. But, it is for a good cause---so maybe I could find the courage to endure the needle---God, I have goosebumps already just thinking about it!

oh paula dont feel bad. i actually faint when i see blood. i make them cover up where the needle enters. i have tried for years to get over it and simply cant. i fear i'll be a mess the first time faith gets hurt.

in my 20s i was on a kick to conquer all of my fears, so i volunteered every Wed night as the juice and cookie girl at the blood bank. there is a long tube like an iv tube at the end of each bag of donated blood. the volunteer (me) puts it in a machine that 'segments' it every inch or so to enable them to test the blood in tiny amounts. well one night i had an issue and was pulling on it and BAM the whole thing opened up and like a bad version of carrie i was covered in thick warm sticky blood.

i never went back to volunteering there and it took at least 2 years for me to donate again. if i can get past something, anyone can. i'd offer to go with you, but man, i just cant watch that! LOL

We just did a blood drive at the base today. Please donate it is a great cause.....the blood we collect goes to the war efforts.

History lesson.....it is a large needle, about 14 or 16 gauge. Needs to be large because if it was smaller (higher number) the platelets could break down to include the red/white blood cells. Plus its faster with a larger gauge!

If you can't stand the site of blood or needles don't look. Bring your mp3 player and listen to your favorite songs. Keep your eyes closed until its over!

ok, kinda lame i grant you, but how many blood donating jokes do you really see out there?

American Medical Association researchers have found that patients needing blood transfusions may benefit from receiving chicken blood rather than human blood.

It tends to make the men cocky and the women lay better.

Just thought you'd like to know
