No - this isn't a new movie with Steve Carell. I was reading this article in the June Issue of More Magazine about a woman who is a 43 year old virgin - holy cow! that is crazy - right?

actually, it's kind of cool, because she decided she didn't want to have *** before marriage and well, she still isn't married, soo....

Has anyone read the June issue?? This story is on p. 83.

I think it's wonderful. She has values and she's sticking to them. Lots of people aren't in to that these days so it's refreshing to see someone who is.

The article is part of a section in More called "What it's like..." Other features included "...to walk a red carpet behind Scarlett Johansson" and "..to argue a case before the Supreme Court."

But this particular article "...to be a 43 year old Virgin" is the most interesting to me. The woman says the only time she was tempted to have *** was with a boyfriend in college: "My boyfriend and I made out twice in my off campus apartment bedroom, but I felt so guilty, I went to confession each time."

I feel like this lady is being pretty hard on herself? yes or no?

Well, she has decided that she will not have pre-marital *** and it sounds like it might be very religion based. For the simple open minded answer I'd say no she isn't being hard on herself, but rather true to herself and her beliefs.
However.....the cynic in me wonders why she is now 43 and still hasn't been married and whether she still has plans to be married and then try to have children. I'd be somewhat interested to know more about her story.

I waited until I was married to have ***. It was something that was really important to me because of my beliefs and I'm glad I did it. However I'm not thinkin I will wait the second time around, it's a lot easier when you don't know what you are missing! Wink

"I'm not thinkin I will wait the second time around, it's a lot easier when you don't know what you are missing!" Haha 4strong - I think you hit the nail on the head!

I think I'd like to affiliate more with the articles of "What it's like....to walk a red carpet behind Scarlett Johanson" and "..to argue a case before the Supreme Court" instead of the one about being a 43 year old virgin, but it is still a really thought provoking series of pieces that More did a great job with.

I'm sure the root of it was religion-based but lets be honest .. at 43, it's all to do with fear at this point. Waiting to be married is one thing but if the sole purpose of our existence is to pro-create (religiously speaking), then she's missed that boat a long time ago. I don't think God would of wanted her to deny herself of that experience. Sounds odd to me.

I was wondering where she went off to. I kinda figured that she ran off with one of my fraternity brothers!

I think that this story is touching. While we live in a society that is overly obsessed with ***, this is a person, regardless of the reason, who has managed to keep those temptations at bay. Regardless of the case, I think that she is making a bold statement. This says to me that I refuse to run the risk of bringing a child into this world without "love"...While we all know that any relationship could collapse, she is a brave brave soul. I also realize that at the age of 43, there would be some concern over having a child, but let's face it, we're talking a woman that has enough love and concern for her faith and beliefs, that regardless the possible risks of having a child, this is one determined lady who can accomplish what she sets her mind to. I am very impressed by this woman and her decision...

well, if a woman has not been able to deal with the subject of *** by the age of 43, how do you think she will cope with married life and children? (should that even occur, which I doubt).

Maybe she is just emotionally dysfunctional?

lots of people are still living in fairy tales thinking their knight in shining armour will magically appear before them, sweep them off their feet, everything will then be perfect "and they lived happily ever after"...

it reminds me of that famous saying
"Religion is the opium of the people".

The way I see it, if God had meant for *** only for procreation, a woman would get pregnant every time she has ***............ Eeker

Great quote Amy!!
