Yep you should have seen the one they made for Laidlaw school bus drivers in their training, showing a bus hit by a train. It was pretty graphic seeing the children...but those were photos taken at the scene.

But so are witnessing accidents at work. I work in the specialty gas industry and you can't get any more graphic than a face being burned with a gas cylinder exploding in your face...

It's all gross for sure. Unfortunately they happen, and because employers here in Canada are not that strict in safety as they say they are, I guess the WSIB wanted to effectively target employers.

I think they designed the www.prevent-it.ca website. Not sure though.

LOL somehow those ads resemble watching the mob movies like sopranos or whatever else mob movies they are. Except they don't talk when they have been stabbed wiht an object....LOL

As for explaining them to you? Sorry I cannot. LOL Never seen them before and I don't usually watch stuff in utubes. Are those ads on television? I asked my son, and he said that the schools were learning about different ads and it's effectiveness, and those ones apparently popped up in the class conversation. While they didn't allow the children to watch it they were told they were made by the government of ontario to make workers aware of how accidents can affect their life...

I dunno....

I also do not know if it is for all provinces of Canada(federal government) that we are speaking of, so I don't want to assume that all of Canada is taking part in that, but I do know the WSIB of Ontario in the provincial government had a big play in that.

I have seen them. The one you posted really bugs me, but I guess they are going for shock value. Its the realities of the workplace and things that happen everyday around the world that you just don't hear about ya know?

Well if my son was your son's age, for sure it is normal not to let them watch that...it is pretty graphic. I think they were meant more for those ready to be in the working world. I also doubt that places that would hire my son liek McDonalds etc uses those clips, but then again what do I know.

So totally understandable you wouldn't let a young child watch that I agree. But we aren't training them in elementary schools LOL My son is in grade 8 and while they talked about those methods of advertising for english class they did not show those clips in the classroom. Thank goodness, I would have been livid.

I was shocked when I drove the school bus for Laidlaw, the graphics they had put in. Let me tell you, it made us think very carefully when we drove that bus on the road loaded with children....I don't agree they should be as graphic, and I don't think being that graphic is necessary to get the point across.

I will most likely write a letter about that to our Minister. It is way to graphic. But they would most likely argue so is everything on the internet and television. It's a no win situation with the government LOL

The other reason why this topic would be debatable, is that inducing fear to have people follow safety rules only attracts more of that problem. our subconscious minds works wonders that way.

When we constantly think "what if" and "what if", guess what usually happens?

If I had to drive a car all the time, thinking about dead bodies all over the street, and panicking because if I did a wrong move i could be dead with my guts all over the road, I would be a nervous driver. While we all know that is true, that dumb moves on the road causes major accidents and sometimes death, if we simply get into the mindset instead, that having a habit of safe driving practices should avoid it, as accidents don't just happen.

I just found this thread. Hey, these spots are GOOD. A bit graphic, sure, but hey, so's life sometimes. How else to wake people up? You gotta shock 'em.
