OK, I resisted reading this book for YEARS! I remember first seeing it when I worked in a public library circa 1996. Tartan and Celtic knotwork on the cover grabbed my attention. However, it sounded a little too "romance novel" for my liking.

Fast forward a good decade or so. I've since spent a semester abroad in the UK, completed a bachelor of arts in English, completed a master of library information science, and all that cross country move-have a baby- get separated-head for divorce stuff in between.

(My background is important, sets you up for my love of reading and a bit of personal reading snobbery.)

I read voraciously, however I fall into a trap of reading too much work-related material (i.e. young adult fiction) but recently I came up completely blank as to what to read for myself next. Someone on another message board recommended the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

So during my next library visit I checked out Outlander and it sat on my dining room table for awhile. My STBX came over to pick up or drop off my son and saw it and harassed me because of the cheesy cover art. That did nothing to get me reading it faster. Roll Eyes

Finally, I picked it up out of boredom. OMG, I'm obsessed with this book now! Big Grin The research and background is really good and the characters are believable and the main two are quite likeable. Yeah, there's a bit more wild rutting than I really care to read but it's still quite likeable!

So if someone's looking for a fun, engrossing, 18th century Scottish Highlands historical fiction/time travel/romance book I recommend it!

Hello kellishly,

The post you responded to is pretty old, however, and this person doesn't really come here anymore. It's OK to reply to old stuff, but you're more likely to get responses when you post in the more recent threads.

Hope this helps and welcome to the site!

Later,
Bobby
