HI, I'm a 21 year old, w/ a one year old little girl. I'm from Warrenton, MO. I'm new and just wanted to introduce myself.
I did have a question for anyone that could answer. Does anyone know the specifics about the abandoment law in MO? I can't find anything on it that won't cost me to research. Thanks. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

The law is that any child up to 30 days old (I think) can be taken to a hospital, fire station, clinic and left no questions asked. Also call your local child protection services office, they would be able to help you with info. Also look in the yellow pages for Birtright. This is an organization to help Moms in crisis. Thanks for your response. But I think you misunderstood my question. I'm wanting to terminate the rights of my daughter's father. He has abandoned her. We haven't seen or heard from him since she was 3 weeks old. I want to make sure he doesn't just come back whenever he feels like it, to ruin our lives. How can I prove that he has abandoned her and is there a law after so many months the child has been abandoned by her father? I never told him he couldn't see her, he just decided it was too expensive to be a parent and bailed on her. I just want to know how to keep him away for good. (legal stand point) Thanks.

I'm not sure about the legalities either, but I've recently been trying to research how to make sure that my daughter's father could never come back in her life either. He's not a good father and his temper and psychotic personality will just cause damage to my daughter in the long run. He's okay with just writing her off and giving up rights, but from what i've noticed in my research, Missouri is very reluctant to just let a parent give up rights. You will probably have to have a strong case to prove him as an unfit father. I'm not sure of all details, but it seems we're looking for a lot of the same info. If you find anything out let me know. Hello im from Missouri also!! I know what it is like to be single! Im 21, my daughter will be 1, August 27. It is pretty exciting. How long have you been single?

Hi, I'm currently new to the board myself and am sort of going thru the same thing.

My daughters father doesn't want her and has nothing to do with her and he wants to give up his rights to her. I have called legal aide and asked them a few questions regarding the same thing. However I am currently on state aide and they are garnishing his wages for child support.

I was told that the court would allow him to give up his rights due to the fact that I was on state aide. Also you can not personally recieve the child support that they garnish unless the amount is over what the state gives you in aide.

If it is under what they give you for aide then the state gets the child support due to the fact that they are giving you aide.

It's been a long while since I've been on this site. I have great news about my abandonment case. My ex's rights are being terminated and my new husband of a year and a half is adopting my daughter. Apparentlly, it's pretty easy to get his rights terminated when he did nothing to support or see his daughter in almost 3 years. He is trying to fight the adoption, but he has no proof that he didn't abandond her, so he hasn't a leg to stand on. He just wants to make our life hard, but not do what's best for my daughter. But no worries cause the adoption is going thru no matter if he contests it or not.

Is that the only way? To get married and have him adopt her? My daughter's father hasn't seen her in about three years either and never paid a dime of child support. I would like to get his rights terminated but I'm not about to get married! lol

I've been looking some stuff up on the internet. From what I have read the state of Missouri won't allow just anyone to give up their rights to their children unless there was some type of physical abuse or someone to adopt the child and take over as the fatherfigure to the child.

I recently had a daughter with high fever and was not able to get her back to her mother in time. AS there have been many violations on her side that have gone unchecked I was floored when her mother was trying to get the court involved with contempt on my part. Since this has never before happened my question is, does the courts in missouri make any allowance for sick children while in the care of one or the other parent. need help in missouri
