Hi, I am the mother of a five year old boy with autism. The National Institute of Mental Health has funded studies at several Universities to replicate the teaching therapy developed by Ivar Lovaas at UCLA. One replecation site has compleated their findings and they support Lovaas's original findings: 42% of the autistic children in the clinical in-home model have recovered, ie. they have normal IQ levels, communication, behavioral, developmental and social skills. 71% of the children can speak in sentences of three words or more. My son has been approved for the clinical therapy through the Lovaas Institute at UCLA and it cost almost 8000.00$ a month. My husband, who has just retired from the air force and has not found a job, said he has had enough and is leaving us here in california to move in with his mother in pensylvania. At which time he will declare bankruptcy, file for divorce and file for custody of our son, knowing that we run out of money to pay our bills on the 15th of february, let alone pay for our sons therapy. I need to be able to work from home, as a predictor of how well the children did was parental involment, and I can be productive at home. Our bills are 4000.00$ a month as my sons medical expenses has put us in debt. I have one year of fine art at college, one year of commercial art at a tech school, a BA in psychology, minoring in computer studies. I am great at research and I am a speed reader: a 500pg novel in about 8hrs, a text book in about 3 to 4 days. I have not worked in over ten years. Any Ideas? HELP!!

Maybe you can find some place for assistance.. Or some employment agency.. They might be able to use your qualities in something that they know of.. I know where I work.. they only go thru temp agencies first.. saves on drama of trying to let someone go if you hire someone right in..and it doesn't work out.. its a lot harder then if you do temp. Hope that helps!

Hi Michelle,
My business partner, also has 2 kids with autism,
she started her business because she wanted to be able to stay at home with her kids and give them all the availble medical attention she could. Because of her income I truly believe that her kids are thriving, they told her to put her little guy in an institution , when I met him 6 years ago he was not even talking and he was about 5 I believe, well he is just a great kid now and a chatter box, If I can give you any
help on working from home just let me know.
Thanks
Wendy
