"Sigh. I love this place." Lively & Zealous Parent |
I need advice ASAP! The people that live above me keep making all kindsa racket. I mean, the music they are playing is so loud right now that it woke me up. I know, it's the middle of the day, but I work 3rd, and I need to sleep during the day. I don't want to advertise that I work at night, but I need for them to have some respect and keep it down so I can get some rest. This happens on a regular basis. And they don't look very friendly, so I'm not sure what to do. Call management, I don't know. I'm kinda scared to go up there myself... but I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to un-friendly looking neighbors... and I've never met them. I don't want to make them mad by calling management, so I'm kind of at a loss... Any advice is welcome.
Thanks! |

Talking to management has always worked for me, saves you the fear of retribution..because then it's documented.

Yep talk to managment or call the sheriff. Being a landlord there is not to much I can do about the neighbors beyond talking to them so I always suggest calling the sheriff. The sheriff should come fairly quickly and will be more intimidating than management.
Good luck. |

Definately talk to your manager. When I deal with noise complaints, we give the problem people a warning. If the problem persists, and the noise does have to be excessive, then we can legally serve them a 3 Day Comply or Quit notice. THis gives them the option of being quiet (and following our rules) or moving out. It also helps to have your manager actually hear the noise first hand, so while it is occuring, ask your manager to come and hear it for themselves. Hope this helps!

The manager's office isn't in this complex, it's in the other one (the bigger one) that they own. So there's really no one here to "supervise" things. I think I will call mgmt... it's really annoying. To me at least.

Management doesn't have to disclose "who" brought this to their attention. Just that there were some concerns about the noise level.

Legally (at least in CA) if there are more than 8 units there has to be a resident manager. Talk to management, like mcd said, they wont disclose who was bringing the complaints.

i work nightshifts also. i once had this problem when i lived in a apt. the best way i found to fix that is too play some soft music, like classical music and just loud enough so i can hear it. it does not take much to overide the neighbors noises. i had a classiscal CD i found at walmart for like 5 bucks and i stick in my my raido and it played over and over. |

My dad told me to get a box fan and just have it on, not necessarily blowing on me, but just for noise. I normally sleep like the dead, so I usually don't need anything, so it's aggravating to have to use some "white noise"....
Thanks! |

A fan is a great idea. I have gotten where I almost have to have some sort of white noise to sleep. I have had a baby monitor by me ear for so long that I can't sleep without it any more. You know one of those that always has some noise coming from it? I still have the baby monitor and can't hardly sleep without the noise. I guess when I don't need it anymore I will have to get a fan.
