"Fighting Optimist" Lively & Zealous Parent |
Help Me, I am out on the ledge and need to be talked down. Yesterday I left work in a huff, not finishing some important work and called in sick today. I know that's incredibly immature, but that's how out of my wits I am. I am so considering going in on Monday with a resignation letter.
I am interviewing, responses very good. Have an interview today. But of course, no offer just yet. A little snippet of things that have happened: 1. My boss has asked me to steal. 2. She once called me a "Loser Mom" because I didn't have Halloween costumes for my children. 3. She is a micromanager, she literally HOVERS over me at times. 4. She can't keep professional distance, has placed her hands on me and gotten in my face (thinking in a joking manner) to do things like "scream" about the pressure we're all under. 5. She has screamed at staff members, some have been reduced to tears. 6. She has trashed-talked everybody in the department to me as well as our Prez/CEO, so I can only imagine she has trashed talked me too. 7. She has the mouth of a sailor, and has been written up by her superior MULTIPLE times. She generally tries to sniff out who reported her, and it's always the same person (not me) and then makes life **** for that person. 8. She has asked people to spy on each other. 9. She is 49, never married, no kids, not dating, problem drinker with according to her a history of abuse in her family. 10. Why don't they get rid of her? They are trying, but knows she will sue, as she has said to everyone in the building. 11. I left yesterday, after approx 20 visits to my office and maybe 10 phone calls. She was on me over one stinking assignment and would not leave me alone to do it. I didn't finish and just walked out, I could not take her harrassment a second longer. 12. I have suffered so many stress-related illnesses it isn't even funny. I have had cold after cold, and pink eye in both eyes--TWICE. If you came to our department n any given day you will hear a symphony of coughing, sniffling. Everyone in the office has a TUB of ibuprofen on their desk. And here's the kicker: I have only been at this place SEVEN months. 13. Because of upper management's distrust of my boss (and I think they are crazy too), they have limited her authority, which affects my work. I get assignment, pass it to her, she has to then pass it to them, they pass back to her, and then back to me for implementation. If there is a hiccup at any of these steps, this process can stretch for weeks. and I promise you, It usually does. In addition, they have so significantly changed the nature of our jobs, that I have estimated, I spend maybe 5% of my time on the projects I was hired to handle. I could tell you a million more stories. Suffice to say, two people in our six person department have announced their resignation. The frustration got to them before me. I thought I would feel better and more level-headed today, but the thought of going back to that place without a resignation letter is making my skin crawl. My stomach actually knots over this ****. I cannot take a second longer, except that, you know, I am single parent, broke, and have bills up to my eyebrow. What on earth should I do? |

This is extremely unhealthy. i think you know what the answer is....GET OUT!
I know you can't just leave (or can you) but this is not the kind of working environment you need. Give yourself a time line ...1 month 2 months etc and make that deadline. Can you live off of your savings until you find something? If not just make it your mission to get away from this place. You will probably see your physical health improve. Good luck. |
