I AM CURRENTLY WORKING FOR THE GOVERNMENT BUT NEED EXTRA INCOME TO HELP PAY MY BILLS. MY EX DON'T PAY CHILD SUPPORT BUT DOES HELP FROM TIME TO TIME BECAUSE HE'S CONSTANTLY IN BETWEEN JOBS, SO I CAN'T DEPEND ON HIM. MY KIDS ARE VERY ACTIVE IN SCHOOL AND CHURCH ACTIVITIES WHICH REQUIRE LARGE SUMS OF MONEY AT TIMES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW I CAN EARN MORE MONEY? Denise ...
I'm not sure what kind of hobbies you have BUT if its something creative, why not try to sell items? I make some extra money by designing and selling jewelry, hair accessories, keychains, etc at local pow wows in the area and also to friends/family members who are looking for something special. If you knit/crochet/bead/plastic canvas/latch hook? Anything like that and just start making things to sell. The children may be a great way to get the word out. I started by making jewelry for Angie and her cousins, it sort of bloomed from there. Just a thought. |

Hi: I am also new to the boards and have a 16 year old daughter. I don't get child support, but can honestly say I don't have any money problems. But it wasn't always like that though, had to make it up in my mind that I wanted better for me and my daughter, and set out on a mission to change my financial situation. I always make sure I have no less than 2 but usually 3 ways to bring income into my home. That also goes hand in hand with having a household budget and some type of system where you automatically save "something" every single month, so you always have some money put up for a rainy day. Even if you just put up $5 a month, it's better than nothing, and you'd be surprised at how fast it can add up and grow. A good place to open up a savings account online is ingdirect.com, they will even put a $25 bonus into your account just for opening it up. You do need a referral link to get the bonus though, e-mail me if you want the link. Or you can simply sign up for an account without the referral link, but you won't get the $25 bonus that way. Doesn't mean you have to close your current accounts, nothing wrong with having more than one. I do. Regardless they are paying one of the highest interest rates around right now at 3.80% interest, and the minimum to open the account is only $1. Even if you just open the account to get the $25 bonus it would be worth it. *Right now I have a food booth set up at my job for extra income (saw the opportunity since we no longer have a cafeteria at my job). Sometimes I make as much as $200 extra a week doing this, and the potential is there to make even more. So keep your eyes open for possible opportunities to increase your cashflow at work. I know some jobs are stricter than others, but their might be something there you have overlooked that you can do to earn extra money, even if it's just setting up a coffee stand, or popping some popcorn and putting it in sandwich bags and selling it. See where there is a need or demand for something and try to fill it. *I have been selling items on Ebay off and on for the past 5 years. Sometimes I sell items around the house, or I may sell items I found on clearance, items at thrift stores, garages sales, church rummages etc. It's really easy to get started selling on online auctions, and it's quick money. With 3 kids I'm sure you have a ton of items sitting around your house that you could sell. Nothing like checking your paypal or bidpay account and seeing money in it waiting for you, or going to your p.o. box to get money orders or cash that has been sent to you. Most of my items have been sold to people in the U.S. but I have also sold my items to people in the UK, Canada, and Germany. People from all over the world are on there bidding on items. A few people from Germany sent me "Cash" instead of a money order, though I didn't ask for nor expect it. The lady in the UK was the winning bidder for a lion king sweater that my daughter had outgrown when she was much smaller. I still had it boxed up and decided to try and sell it, and it sold with no problem. If you need tips on getting started selling on Ebay let me know. I have helped quite a few people get started selling on there, it's probably one of the quickest ways to get some fast money. *You may also want to consider signing up to become a Mystery Shopper at http://www.mysteryshops.com/about/ I am signed up with them but haven't went on any job assignments yet, though they e-mail me job assignment quite often. Once you sign up with them they will automatically e-mail you job assignments in your area. You can simply pick the assignments that are convient for you, may be at Kmart, Steakhouse Resturant, etc. You get reimbursed for your purchase, and some type of commission too. Some assignments pay more than others. *I have also typed Resumes in the Past to earn extra $. Just get creative and think about what skills you may have and allot a couple of hours a week to increasing your income. Not to burn yourself out, but find something you can blend into your schedule that's flexible |

Wow...you're right! That *is* a helpful post. That person hasn't posted here in a long time, however...it's too bad, they had good things to say.
If you want to sell things on ebay, however, you need to first sign up for an ebay account. Click the "Register" button on ebay.com. You'll probably want to register with Paypal too, as you will get a lot more bidders if you accept Paypal. Finally, you should find a place to store and link to pictures on the web, as ads with pictures get more bidders. Ebay will host the pics for you, but they charge; even though it's a small amount, it all adds up and there's many other options for storage. I use the free web space that came with my Comcast Internet connection. What are you looking to sell? You may want to first search for those things, to see how much other people are getting for them. There have been things that I thought would bring a lot of money, but then found 10 of the same thing on ebay already with zero bidders. Once you've decided what you want to sell, how much you want for it, and have a picture on your computer, posting the ad is very easy (ebay's site is very self-explanatory). There's all sorts of advice and tricks people have for how to get the most money for what they sell, but after you get a few auctions under your belt you'll figure how to optimize your sales yourself. Anyway...I hope that helps. I've had good luck with ebay BTW...I've actually *made* money off of all the Halloween costumes I've sold on there! Let me know if you need any more help, and let me know how it goes. Later, Bobby |

I know what it is like to be in your shoes...I struggled with it tremendously...until I learned how to never be in such a situation again. Everyone who posted had some wonderful ideas...but sometimes when your so broke you can't afford to start something. I don't know your situation right now, but you can email me to talk about getting your credit under control, and learning the mindset to not only getting rid of debt but also to start accumulating income to start investing in a second source of income for you so that you will not have to worry about where the next check is going to come in from to pay your bills.
Financial education is the first key because if your having trouble manageing money now, even if you started a business, you might make the wrong decisions in handling your money in any business venture...too often i see people chasing their tails when it comes to chasing money. They get out of debt and then get right back into it when they start making money and then wondered how did it happen. If you want some coaching I give it for free to members on this site, I will coach you. I normally charge according to one's salary, but in many cases I do do it for free. Why? cause I know what it is like not to have any money and no one to teach me how to rebuild credit and catch up with bills. email me at singleparent-youthcoach@hotmail.com Writing a guide for personal change, fullment and discovery for children with dead beat parents. If you as a parent, or the child have a story to share, would love to include it. |
