At A loss for Words - NOT!

Okay - I think I've already made my decision but want some of your opinions if ya have time.

I have a full time position. I like my job - it's about an hour and 15 minutes from home (the only disadvantage.) However I have 'longterm' (next year) plans to move closer to work. This job is a large insurance company...

I received a job offer from a company I worked for 5 years ago. This company is a small family owned business. It is @ 30 minutes from home which would be great to fast forward and not have the extra time on the road.

So my decision is based on this.

The pay equals out to about the same $500 difference annually.

I would not have a single vacation day there - I have 22 vacation days now.

The pay increases are small there and there is no room for advancement.

So I have decided to keep on treking here near Indy until I can move closer but - Am I wrong to move my children away from family and friends? We'll only be 35 minutes away from them but is that terrible of me? If I took the job closer to home, I'd feel like I'm throwing in my cards and calling it quits. So many of my goals would be gone.. And, my associates degree wouldn't be recognized at the new place. Smiler

Opinions? Thanks! I'm scared I'm doing the wrong thing.

You did the right thing hands down. To begin 35 minutes is not a lot to go visit family and friends. You have to think in the long term anyway as far as insurance vacation 401k and advancement.

It does feel good to be wanted at other companys. You have to admit that one. Good luck.

I think you are doing the right thing! You must look at the long range (as aunder said) and not close in convenience. You left that old job for a better opportunity, and you found it.

35 minutes away from family and friends is not bad at all, and you have to do what is best overall - which is not always the popular decision.

Keep reaching!!

I think you've made a great decision. Sounds like you've given it a lot of thought.

I agree. 35 min is not that long and you do have to think of the future. If you were to even consider the other job I would make them up the offer. Give you the vacation days and at minimum equal pay if not more.
I don't care for the idea that you can't advance that would bother me greatly.
Best to you and God bless.
