The other night I dreamt I got a part time job working at McDonalds! It was crazy...I think I am a little more qualified than that!
Actually, that dream is probobly better classified as a nightmare!

Hmmm...I'm not trying to be a pain, but have you thought about how a single parent might feel if they worked at McD's and read this post? I know plenty of parents that work there...

I dunno...please don't take this too seriously...I'm just trying to make a point...

I know the feeling of being overqualified, but I agree with BigBobby that it could be very ridiculing to those of us that are having to explore every option to keep a roof above our heads.

I'm currently about to apply to Wal-mart. I have 6+ years experience in administrative work. I've been an administrative assistant to large corporate executives, done internal auditing and built performance databases. My health told me I had to go for a receptionist/dispatch position 2 years ago. Now I cannot even get up and answer phones for 8 hours a day.

We all know what it is like to feel as if we can do WAY better, but please keep in mind...I'll do anything to keep my kids in clothes. Even ask, "You want fries with that?"

I applied at McD's this past summer for a asst. manager position. Its not that bad a place to work. They have good benefits, and if your good enough they will send you to Hamburger U. Paid expenses and all. The part that I wouldnt have liked is that you have to be trained on all the stations there, so you can train new employees. It must be tough to keep up the pace when its busy. I am glad that something more along my field came along.

Heh, heh, remember Kevin Spacey in American Beauty?? That was great..

I joke that my dream job is Subway.... Just think of it! No deadlines, no ISO inspections, no multi-million dollar losses, no contracts, and service reps. Just plastic gloves.. Your biggest worry is making sure you have enough tomatoes sliced up for the lunch rush.

All that you'ld have to worry about is, "Do you want extra mayo?" Then (this is a joke) you could go out back on break for a little "Cheech and Chong" behind the dumpster. Then when you come back from break, you can make yourself a sandwich..

Now if they could only match my salary....

I dunno...that sounds pretty accurate for how my days used to go at the sub shops where I worked...

You know, the managers of those places really do get decent salaries and benefits...and you never have to worry about your job moving to Asia...

I remember one time, however, when I was eating dinner in the McDonald's by my house. I live in a pretty hardcore ghetto, and people don't realize how many handicapped and retarded people live here. Well...one day a retarded man finished his dinner next to me, took an old receipt out of his pocket, and then walked up to the counter...he got into a fight with the manager there, because he said he hadn't gotten some of his food yesterday and he wanted it today. He got really belligerent with the manager, who was very professional yet distressed through the whole thing. At that time, all I could think was how they couldn't pay me enough to get abused by a retarded guy over a cheeseburger...

But realistically, managing fast food restaurants is probably a decent career path...and you know, the franchise owners are sometimes regular people...

Later,
Bobby

omg...and the best part, was there were *women* at those restaraunts...

seriously...more women than men...I often wonder if it'd be worth the pay cut to switch to a job that's not 90% male...life's all about balance...

I'm so sorry if I offended anyone, but the truth is I have worked at: Wendy's, Peter Piper Pizza, and Popeyes Chicken ..b4..a long time ago,and as a single parent and I know how it is. The point I was trying to make is mostly about the wages they pay.
That being said..I have done some really crappy jobs to support all my kids and me, I worked in restauraunts (not bad in themselves but how one gets treated sometimes is), landscaping (it wasn't that bad, but very hard and it wasnt very becoming for me being a woman..getting oily and dirt sticking to your hands even if u use gloves) I cleaned empty apartments for new rentals ( how some people lived was so disgusting) the list goes on and on...this could actually be a new post.."the worst jobs youve ever had"

Ok Mr Bobby! How offensive do you think THIS statement is for us parents that have loved ones with special needs?

Do you know what "handicapped" means? It comes from the term: cap-in-hand; thus meaning 'begger'. When individuals with disabilities were institutionalized (locked-up)they were treated as incompetent, muchlike beggers needing help. Then when the government decided to "let them loose", they failed to give them proper transitioning support. Therefor, many of them resorted to begging on the streets for money.

I'm not even going to get started on "retarded". Many of us have some form of disability. Some are just harder to see with the naked-eye.

I don't mean to take your words to heart but I just happen to be one of those parents who work with children with Autism. It directly affects who I am. I'm sure you meant no harm but I can't help but be offended.

You know Big Bobby that was slightly offensive to read that word. It was repeated a few times in you post. I have to agree w/ms.jess. I'm not taking it to heart but was offended by the word. There are a few words that I would not allow my son to say and that is one of them. Like MJ said there is no harmful intent by you but yes it was offesive.

As for Tuscon Superwoman I can realate to her dream and feelings. I worked at MCD's for a year. I was 20yrs old and like her and many of you did want I had to do b/c I was a single parent. I know that once I've been out of that fast food place I really don't want to go back. Just something about leaving MCD and when people smell you coming they get VERY hungry for a Big Mac LOL. But seriously I can see both sides of the posts. If that is what I had to do to take care of my son then I would do just that - lets hope that it does not come down to that.

Dew you're right the subway set up would be the greatest. Hey the pay I get at my current supposly better job would probably be about the same. LOL AHH the young teen years when the "cheech and Chong" deal and gas for your car was the most important pieces in your life LOL

Jeezus jes...both my son and I are on the Autism spectrum...we're high functioning, but my son still gets plenty of services at school for his "disability"...as for me, the "disability" seems to make me employable although I sometimes wonder if it had something to do with my divorce...

As far as the words retarded and handicapped... Those words allowed the readers of my post to quickly understand the individual I was
describing; I doubt many mistook the adjectives for insults.

Edited to Add: Man...I'm pretty worked up now...more to come later...
