I am New to SFV

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum. Since there's a place for it I thought I'd ask if anyone here has been in therapy for depression. I'm seriously starting to consider it but I'm wary of crackpot psychologists who might make my problem even worse!

I've been through therapy for depression. You have to be careful who you seek though. I understand the whole "crackpot psychologists" thing. I had one once that told me I was to blame for all of my issues and that I just needed to get over it. Wasn't the best advice, so I sought someone that actually wanted to help me. If you get a bad or negative feeling about a psychologist, then try a different one. By all means find one that you are comfortable with.

I went to therapy for depression years ago. She helped me out greatly. I eventually had to stop going after my insurance changed and I could no longer go to her. You do have to find the right person for you though. My therapist was referred by my doctor, maybe you can ask you doctor if you feel comfortable for a referral.

I would hate to think that psychiatrists would put situations in someone's head though just to make money or whatever. You ever wonder how entertaining psychiatrists are some of their patients stories? Mine used to laugh with me, and sometimes at me, when I would reach an epiphany about something. Not in a mean way but it was nice that someone wasn't taking me too seriously but knew me enough to know that sometimes I just needed someone to listen and go with me on things. Smiler

Sometimes I wonder if by the end of the day if they are thinking they're tired of listening to people whine. lol Or if there is a burn out in that field, like after so many years people just can't take listening to other people's problems all day long. Or if they have to really hold back and not say what they are really thinking but go with a standard text book explaination of why they are feeling that way. Yeah I'd really love to pick the brain of a therapist.
