ADHD: You'll need to take a comprehensive evaluation to eliminate other possiblities to your symptoms. A clinical assessment of academic, social and emotional functioning and developmental level. Checklists for rating ADHD symptoms are helpful too.

Contact any of the following: psychologists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists and other medical doctors.

If you don't know where to start, talk to your GP. He'll be able to give you a physical examination, including hearing and vision tests to outrule other ADHD like symptoms.

Also, a percentage of people with ADHD may also have thyroid dysfunction. Have that checked out as well if you're considering on taking anti-depressants.

Good luck with this.

asayo,
I took Effexor XR, and tried a few other anti-depressants for situational depression I could not handle. Effexor was the best for me. The XR did not have that effect on me. There are many others on the market as well. If you have no change in side effects call your MD.
As for ADHD.. Jes is right on the money.

Ps: Can I suggest for you to read the posting titled: "Anti-Depressed Medication" in the Dealing with Depression Forum? There's talk about other experiences much like yours.

I took Effexor XR a few years ago and was sleep-induced as well. It did not work well for me. It may take some time to find an anti-depressant that works.

I've been on every anti-depressant they make that you don't have to show your ID to get at the pharmacy. Talk to your physician and a counselor and see what they recommend. You will need to work closely and report all negatives to them to get everything smoothed out. It can take years if you aren't vocal about the effects.
