At A loss for Words - NOT!
Posted
Hey Everyone. I have a paper to write for my Intro to Sociology class. The subject: Anything in regards to society. I have chosen a topic regarding single parenting. I am very passionate about the lack of support for single parents. I hurt for myself and every other single parent that struggles to raise enough money to provide for their children. My thoughts are that Assistance Programs need to be refined. I know too many people that work one or more jobs and or go to school and still have to struggle in todays economy.

Please if you have the time, would you answer a few questions for me. These questions will assist in writing my paper and explaining the problem from a personal perspective rather than only a media perspective.

1. How many children do you have?

2. Living Arrangements: Alone with children / With other Adults?

3. Occupation: Work, School, Stay at Home?

4. Financial Standing:
-Scraping by constantly Struggling to pay for necessities (rent, food, etc.)
-Just enough to pay for necessities but no disposable income for savings / extras.
-Easily able to pay for necessities with some disposable income.
-Easily able to pay for necessities, with disposable income, able to save in case of unexpected expenses, already have college savings accounts for children.

Thank you in advance for assisting! Feel free to pm with any questions or concerns.

Hi MJ, here you go...

1. How many children do you have?

- two kids (9 and 7)

2. Living Arrangements: Alone with children / With other Adults?

- I live alone with my kids (wife is deceased)

3. Occupation: Work, School, Stay at Home?

- I work full-time, though I work from home two to three days a week. I go to school one night a week.

4. Financial Standing:

- I dream of being the last option, but I'm somewhere between the second and third. The kids and I are comfortable, but have a big mortgage to deal with. So disposable income is there, but it's not really so disposable after all.

Hope this helps - good luck.

Chris

Thank you guys! I'm going to answer the questions too...

1. 2 children
2. Alone with children for the past 2 years
3. Full time work and school
4. Now that I read the options, they are not open enough. I'm able to afford nec and have a little extra for spending - but not enough for savings and college funds..

Thank you all so much~

Heres another idea(dont mean to add more thoughts to your paper) but what about looking at the different states and how they manage their state hlep and the average income ect... Sorry I just love writing papers for these things! SHH don't tell anyone but I miss college soooo much. I took all of thos great claesses and loved them.

Gook luck on your paper.. If I can help any futher let me know.

Thank you for the suggestion Spirit! That is a great idea but the paper can't be more than 5 pages. So I plan to write as a view of the US in whole. I will add in an average income but I don't think I can break down state by state in 5 pages. Nor do I have the time to compare each state. hhhhmmmm Now you have me thinking! Let me know if you have any other suggestions! And anyone else, if you have suggestions, please feel free!

4. Financial Standing:
-Scraping by constantly Struggling to pay for necessities (rent, food, etc) although this hasn't been a huge problem since moving in with my friend..I do pay his mom rent, but it's much cheaper than if I lived by myself, plus his mom tends to spoil my daughter. Smiler
