I am New to SFV

This is half a question and half a rant, so please bear with me:

I have been scouring all day (while I still have power) to find out the rules regarding getting child support orders from the Dept of Revenue moved across state lines. More specifically, Florida to Virginia, however I can find nothing that at least pertains to this type of situation.

Now on to the ranting part of things:
Child support is garnished from my ex...and his employer must send it from California to FL prior to the pay date, and they have done so consistently and without question, however the state always manages to find a way to mess me up. A year ago, they "lost" three child support checks..totaling over 1500 dollars, it took getting ahold of a state representative to even get the checks "found" 1 1/2 months later.

At best, I am lucky to get my checks 7-10 days after the true pay date, the fact I am getting money at all makes me blessed, please don't get me wrong.

Now, a child support check was due yesterday, today at the latest, and it is not here. With Frances knocking on my door, I have no idea now when I will possibly get anything. The state disbursement unit offers direct deposit for ALL cases EXCEPT dept of revenue... Why is it that in all matters of dealing with the DoR and the SDU that we are consistently faced with inefficiency and people who cannot answer a simple question regarding things, and the answer is always "I don't know".

Having said all that, I now desire to move back home with my family to Virginia and want to have the support order moved...has anyone been through this or knows the proper procedure for doing so? I'd like to aet it up prior to moving so that it goes fairly seamlessly...as it stands I can't trust to get the money my son needs now on time, I'd hate to see it if I didn't follow the "protocol".

Thanks for your help.

You might want to call the family courts in VA (yeah thats where I use to live) and talk to someone in their Child Support Office. You should also be able to check online at: http://www.dss.state.va.us/division/childsupp/

Its should get you headed in the right direction.... I hope! Best of luck on your move!

When I moved from Ca to IN, I just called the child support office that issues my payments and gave them my new address.

I also followed it up in writing via certified mail and fax. They changed the mailing address and I continued to received my pittance of a support check.

For me it was just that simple.

I hated trying to get them to move the support even to another county in Florida. I moved about an hour and a half, almost 2 hours south of where I originally had the support issued. They told me that since it was "still within a reasonable driving distance" they wouldn't move the case. You will have to be persistant, because these people aren't having to wait for their checks to come to them, so they don't care.

I hope everything works out for you! -Jennifer
