I'm new to Jacksonville, single mom of two, and need some advice on how to find a sitter for some evenings. Where are some good places to find sitters? I'd prefer a teenager that could stay late and not charge me a TON of money. Since usually the kids will be sleeping and all they have to do is sit and watch tv, and make sure the apt doesn't burn down. Probably more hours during the summer...good way to make some summer cash!!

If anyone knows something helpful, or has a teenager that babysits please contact me. I keep getting asked out on dates and I hate telling them, no sorry I dont' have a sitter..please help!!

I would try the local churches. Alot of times, they will have a list of teens that are qualified. Also, any senior citizen centers. The retired make great babysitters, and need extra cash. Also, the local girl scout leaders. Good luck

Marcia,
Contact the local Red Cross and ask if they have a list of qualified sitters. They hold classes at the Jewish Community Alliance and a few other places for girls and boys wanting to learn baby sitting skills and safety. My daughter has taken this class and it was great;however, I do not want her babysitting for a while. Also check into licensed home day care providers. Many of them offer evening hours.

Great suggestions thanks! I'd rather not go the church route as I'd hate for goody goody religious kids to be watching mine while I go out till 2am. LOL

Someone told me they found a great sitter by contacting the local high school guidance counselor and asking s/he to recommend a student. Good luck!
