Does anyone know of any single/parent support groups for parents of kids with disabilities? It's REALLY difficult to meet dates being a father of a handicapped child, but I know in this big area there must be SOME support groups.
Or, if any moms want to talk or someone to just do things with, send a message to me. I am in my 40's, and divorced two years. Thanks,Steve

Hi Steve,
I am sorry I do not have any help for you in the way of support groups. I wanted to stop in and say welcome to the board. I hope you find it as much of a help and support as I have.

Hi Carla, and thanks for the welcome. I am in retial and have shared custody of my daughter, and it makes it hard to meet women. I belong to a church, and try my best to be sociable at amusement parks, etc. when I take my daughter but well, it takes a special person to want to date a guy with a handicapped child, even tho she doesn't slow me down a bit. Hoping to find either a soulmate or friend just to do stuff with here in the bay area.. just joined, so we'll see.. and thanks again
Steve

Steve,
I have recently joined, so please excuse the late post. Have you tried the Pediatric Services of America? We recommend them to people who call becasue we do not do pediatrics. They are a really good organization. I admire you for your dedication to your daughter. My daughter is A.D.D., so I know how a disability can be. People can be judgemental and cruel without even realizing it. I used to work with a lady that said she wouldn't know what to do if her children weren't perfect. I told her that God gave me the perfect child. You are doing a fine job Steve and I bet that she is a "bonny lass". Anyway, PSA is listed in the phone book. Believe it or not, All Children's may be able to give you some avenues as well.
God Bless,
Becky

Steve,
I don't know if it will help or not, but I found something that might help you. Go to this site and see if there is anything helpful http://www.dsacf.org/ Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.
