I live in florida but I am not sure what you mean about "not in those places where you need to drive everywhere"
I live in the gainesville area which has alot of local artists and art and crafts fairs. And of course home to The Gators/UF

have you tried going to the tourist websites for the state? There is also www.myflorida.com that has a ton of info on florida.
I like where I am living because there is almost always something going on during the weekends.
We do have alot of resturants, little shops, etc. Not sure about cafes though. We do have places like starbucks, panera, barnes and noble, etc. There are some eateries that have tables and chairs set up out side. I don't know of all the places because I don't really frequent them too much.
One thing I tend to get irriated with my area is that sometimes it tends be catered too much to the college kids. But overall I like this place.
If you need anymore help...just let me know.

I know what you're talking about - I'm from Vermont originally and everyone walked everywhere! Little mom and pop type cafe's and diners were the places to go...

As far as places like that in FL...I'VE never come across any - this state is far too touristy and commercialized for that. Maybe some of the towns closer to the beach might have that feel - but Orlando definitely doesnt Smiler Good Luck!

Krock,
Tinkerbell was right. Most of the place is very commercialized. many other places cater to college kids or retirees. As Tinkerbell also suggested: some of the beach towns on the West coast have restrictions on franchised or corporate owned businesses. Try checking around Clearwater and surrounding areas. St. Augustine is great too but, it is very historical and has quite a few tourists.

Hi and the place i live is around Cocoa beach, Satellite Beach, Indian Harbor beach, and it has alot of people walking and its so casual i love it!! you see people running very early in the morning, people walk to the stores and restaurants and people crossing the A1A w/ their surf boards and our "older" people walk and run and even families walk everywhere, people on bikes. I think it's great.

I live in cape coral, fl. Little shops everywhere, but you have to drive to each one. Which is good because it is so darn hot sometimes, you think you are gonna melt if you don't get in your car and get some A/C on ya. LOL.

I'm about 30 min from the beach. Got tired of going years ago, but it's always busy!

I'm am trying to sell my house now. I've been here 14 years and I'm ready to leave.

Where are you coming from?

Eli

I live in St.Augustine and you can walk everywhere. I also lived in Key West where you better walk everywhere. You have to own a business to make it in towns like this, they are very touristy and no one pays well. It is no fun to live in a town where you can walk everywhere when you cant afford to enjoy it. I would not recommend St. Aug but Atlantic Beach in Jacksonville is great, alot to do that is free and cool people. I had to move back to St.Aug. because my daughter was failed in 1st grade and I knew she shouldnt have been and St.Aug was the only place that would retest her
