Getting My Feet (Board) Wet |
Hi everyone,
Thanks to everyone for posting to my "need experienced advice" thread. We made it. I delivered on my due date, last Saturday night. Baby William is doing great. I understand now why everyone said that they would do it again (or did do it again!) even after all that pain. I started having real labor pains the night prior and went in to the hospital early Saturday morning. They sent me home with some pain meds. I made it through most of the day OK, with lots of support from my sister and mother. My grandfather was there as well and kept us laughing (even during the contractions.) He had six of his own and delivered one on thier kitchen table. Anyway, in the late afternoon I walked a lot, and mostly for laughs, took a jog around the back yard. That must have done it because the contractions came one on top of the other and I finally understood about the pain everyone was talking about! When I got to the hospital I was dialated at five. The epidural was amazing! I don't know how any of the moms out there did without one! It only took a few more hours to get ready. When it was time, I delivered in 45 minutes. Apparently that was a record for a first time mom at my hospital. :-) So everything is well. I made friends with the nurses and that was great advice from everyone. Anyway, we are adjusting to being at home. Baby Will is healthy and strong and already gaining weight. Will's dad was around, but I finally had to limit him at my house a few days ago. He did better than I thought at the delivery, and everyone was right........it was the nurses who helped me anyway, so it didn't matter what he did. I had to limit him because he had just been hanging around and we (my family and I) were getting sick of taking care of him while trying to focus on the baby. We also babysit three of my nieces and nephews (ages 2 to 9 and the youngest just got out of a lower body cast and needs lots of help) and my cousin (age 10 months). So we have our hands full (and it's wonderful) and he was just another kid to take care of and had to go. He was very upset about it, but when I tried to explain why he was stressing everyone out, he got angry and wouldn't let me talk and started yelling at me. But my attitude is that he is the one who abandoned us way back in January, so he can't just come back now that the baby is here AND expect to be waited on. (nevermind start yelling at me in my own home). He had his chance and wanted to "just work and go out with his friends". Of course, those friends are nowhere to be found and he's finding out what he's going to be missing out on and is regretful. But that's another story! And it's funny now that Will is here, how much my priorities are changing. I don't care so much about what happened with my ex and how sad I had been about it. I'm so busy with Will and our influx of visitors everyday, that I don't have time. I think that I am so overwhelmed with love for this baby that it's all I can care about and those petty little things I used to obsess about are disappearing. It's great. OK, this is long enough. Thanks to everyone and I look forward to getting involved with everyone here on the forums. Christine (and Will). |

Isn't it amazing how a new baby just slides right into your life? It's like they've always been there. I was so worried about how a new baby would effect my older 2 but when Ryan was born we had no trouble integrating him into our family.
Congrats on the new baby and I wish you both health and happiness! My blue-eyed babies Courage isn't the absense of fear but the willingness to act in the face of fear. |

Congrats Christine - and just a word for you. Right now, and for the next say 4 months or so every thing will be a whirlwind. But things will slow down as Will gets a little older (able to sit and play on his own, etc.) And things will most likely hit you again. So continue to heal, don't let yourself get so that you ignore it completely. Take advantage of the busy-ness and continue the process, because it will all come back in a few months. Just letting you know. I thought things were going really well. Then I realized I was just so busy I kind of forgot, but as my son got a few more months in age, it all hit me again. But the best thing is, you have a beautiful son that needs you. No better love in the world! This is still all new for me too, so coming from a Mom who is just a little ahead of you.
