She stayed in the hospital for a few days. Many of the nurses were not nice to her...she didn't wear her wedding ring to the hospital as it hurt her finger at the end of her pregnancy, and some called me her "gentleman friend." Little Bobby was the first baby I ever held. I remember carrying him up and down the hosptial hallway, stopping at the Christmas trees there so I could watch the reflection of flashing lights in his eyes as he stared.
We must have played the Scrabble game two hundred times after we brought it home; she got much better at it. It was a great way for poor couples to pass time. I still have it, but now it's missing an "E".
Later, Bobby [/qb]
Don't tell touching stories like that. I'll cry! Thats so sweet. Can I get an "AWWWW" from all the ladies.

Lively & Zealous Parent

When our first son was due we went up to the hospital (45 minute drive because my ex wanted to have her regular doctor, which was a little scary since had these visions of the baby coming before we got there) when her water broke. She was having small contractions and not fully dilated, so they hooked up all the monitoring and we watched movies and waited, but things just stayed like that for hours - we went through the entire maternity staff cycle by the end. After about 12 hours she was having pain so had the epidural (was topped off a couple times), then tbey started giving her drug to induce labor (but the doctor believed in doing that slowly with a low dose), so then finally after 21 hours got to the point where they had her start to push. That ended up taking 5 hours, eventually they used a vacuum device attached to the head to help our son come out, by that time both mom and baby were totally wiped out - I had been at the point of asking the doctor to just do a c-section because it was getting a little scary and she could barely push anymore. So definitely gained a huge respect and understanding for what women go through giving birth, plus she had the episiotomy, and then the whole after birth & recovery process. The next time was a typical (I've heard) easier 2nd child deliver - 5 hours total with 45 minutes of pushing, we both got to watch the actual birth (mirrors), and it's just such an amazing process and thing to witness. As women like to say it's a good thing the men don't have the babies, or we would've gone extinct long ago. It also amazes me how women seem to forget the difficulty & pain afterward, and how they are willing to do it all over again. Those were definitely 2 of the closest times we ever shared, too bad that didn't last and we couldn't find that closeness in our everyday lives.
