Sextuplets born to Arizona woman

11:16 AM Mountain Standard Time on Monday, June 11, 2007

The Associated Press

PHOENIX -- A 32-year-old Arizona woman gave birth today in Phoenix to sextuplets.
Carey Peña reports A spokeswoman for Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center says the babies -- three boys and three girls -- were delivered by cesarean, beginning at 8:22 a.m. They were born prematurely after 30 weeks and four days.

One of the three doctors involved in the births, Dr. John Elliott, said they anticipated all possible problems, and they didn't happen. Elliott says the delivery was "as good as you could possibly draw up." He said he wouldn't have changed anything.

The parents are 32-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Jenny Masche and her 29-year-old husband, Bryan.

The largest of the babies, a boy, weighed 3 pounds. One of his sisters was the smallest at 2 pounds, 1 ounce.

Jenny Masche learned she was pregnant last December after years of trying to conceive naturally then trying artificial insemination with her husband. She was admitted to the Phoenix hospital March 26.

When the Masches were told that Jenny was pregnant with sextuplets, Bryan says they were terrified by the prospect of having six babies. But he says faith in God and the community's support pulled them through.

Well-wishers have organized several drives to help the family financially and with baby supplies.

The mom is doing better now, she went into cardiac arrest after surgery because the amount of blood in her body had doubled and then after she had the babies the blood rushed to her heart.

All babies are doing very well and off the ventalators Smiler

What is awesome to me that therer was a mother (I believe in Minnesotta) that had sextuplets on the SAME day!!! I have both of their websites at work and I will post them when I get there.

That's nuts. I don't agree with artificial insemination as 99% of the time it results in multiple fetuses being concieved. It's just not natural to carry and give birth to that many babies at once, let alone the risks involved for both mother and babies. And it's almost a given that the babies will face health issues thereafter. Sorry but I have very strong convictions about this.

on another note, you have a beautiful family mashell...you should be very proud.

How very sad. I'm not surprised, unfortunately.

This is one of those situations where I believe selective termination is appropriate. I honestly don't know if I could do it if I were in their place, but you've got to think about it this way: Would you rather have 2 healthy babies or 6 struggling premature, underweight ones with major health issues throughout their lives, and that's if YOU even survive?
