My Elizabeth first off decided that she wanted to sleep in...lol and arrive a whole week late. In fact, I was told that I was going to be induced the Wednesday after she came.
I first felt my labor in the car on the way to State College with my dad and her father, but my water didn't break till the next morning, when we woke up. LOL I woke up, as usual having to pee, and just started gushing all over the bed So, we got everybody up and then began 39 hours of active labor... Which, here I'm just gonna brag a tiny bit...I went through with only 1 shot of morphine to help me sleep the night and a shot of Nubane to help me push. ^_^ Though the funniest part was that I still don't understand how that is a major thing...for me it was just natural, and it felt so wrong to even think about more drugs than absolutely nessicary. But then, I'm a very much 'God never gives you more than you can handle' kind of person. So, at 10:49pm on March 19th, 2005 Elizabeth Ann was born at 8lbs 2oz and 21in long, and life hasn't been dull since. |

Congratulations on your bundle of sweetness and joy. I hope that things continue to go well for you.
On a side note, not all the people here can go through child birth w/as little meds as you did. Congratulations on that. I personally was induced while they gave me a drip to bring down my blood pressure. The drip is the same meds they give women to stop labor, so I had opposing forces working on me. I needed that epidural and stadol that I got, but I wish that my labor could have been handled w/just a little morphine. What a beautiful name your baby is blessed w/as well. Enjoy her while she is small because they grow up just as fast as you've been told they will, sometimes faster. |

Wow. 39 hour labor? I had 24, and was tired, and had to go for the epidural to sleep a little. Plus, I was induced, and since I have had no other experience, I've heard that induced labor is even worse than the "real" thing. How long did you have to push?

Thank you all for your congrats...and yeah I heard the induction is harder than "real" labor. I think maybe thats one of the reasons I was able to get through it...I was so terrified of how much worse it would be if they gave pitocin which they kept threatening me with.
It kind of amazes me that so many people are induced...I follow my instincts a lot, that's how I go through everything in my life and just the thought of induction makes my little red flags go up. My logic is that if there's nothing wrong, why should it be done? I figure Ma Nature will make the little one come when he/she is supposed to, and what better mother is there than Mother Nature? I mean c'mon, she invented it, lol. |

Just wanted to reply, in my case it was warranted. I had group B strep, and my water broke. I had no contractions, and wasnt even dialated, so my baby was at risk of contracting the group B which can be deadly for the baby. I was also late, and if my water hadnt broke, I was supposed to have gone in that day for a stress test, and another ultrasound. I would much rather have been induced than to have had a c-section.

I didn't mean it wasn't nessicary in some cases, and I'm glad things turned out well for you, Sane. The worst thing in the world is to think that your little one is at risk for something, anything, that could be harmful.
Also, I do completely agree with you, being induced, IMO, is a much better option to having a C-section (at least in non-emergency situations). I also realized I never answered your one question...I'm not sure how long I was pushing...it all kind of came as a blur. One moment I was breathing through contractions the next I was told to push and the very next she was laying in my arms. At least that's how it seemed. :sweetheart: |

I knew from the moment I got pregnant (in fact, even before hand) I wasn't going to go about the labour without my dearest friend, Mr. Epidural. lol My labour lasted about 43 hours and I didn't ask for the needle until 24hrs into it. I almost missed the cut-off time. (I felt I'd suffered enough).

Wow! i ended up getting the epidural after 30 hours of active labor.... it lasted until it ran out, then i had to go without and pushed for 4 hours... THEN had a c-section.
I couldnt of went 40 hrs w/o my epidural... 30 was long enough! |

all three of my children were induced due to a medical condition and medication and such. With my first I was admitted monday the contractions started around 2 am and I had her wendsday at 6:15. I got an epideral but it wore off and by the time he came in it was too late.
My second was really scarry i was admitted on monday contractions started then subsided woke up tuesday was hemorhaging although i thought my water broke and it was actually blood. I asked the nurse no one told me this wasnt normal. The dr came in. I asked for drugs, checked me said I had a long time to go and left. I hr later i was ready to deliver and baby was in serious distress. Any my dr not answering page on call dr came in and they rolled be down to the O.R. while the dr was still trying to deliver him.(the people in the elevator had a show!) In the O.r. he wouldnt let my husband in or tell him why. After abouit 15 minutes I delivered my son Jagger looking blue but only for a few minutes. The nurse came over to my mom and said HE ALMOST LOST BOTH OF THEM IN THERE. She was upset. But we were ok so it didnt matter. It wasnt untill 5 years later while pregnate with #3 i found out my placenta had detached and no one felt the need to tell me. So # 3 i was admitted on a monday they almost took me off the pitt on wednsdsday but I finally starteed a hard enough labor that they decided to let me stay(i didnt want to go home babyless)after three days of pain. So when I started to feel stronger contractions i told the nures I really want the drugs this time can have them b4 its too late. she checked and guess what too late. so I got nothing. But she delivered beautifully w/o forcepts of suction thingy. she was the easiest physically but it was so hard emotionally not having my husband there with us. So at least I can do the braging thing and say i had alittle drugs for one and absolutley nothing for the other two. but honestly I would have loved to drugs! Next baby I think I'll adopt!lol http://myspace.com/sugarand3 Courage doesnt always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow." |
