Well the day I found out I was pregnant I gave up smoking, drinking and cocaine. Yes..I was a drug addict and I stopped cold turkey at the very moment I looked at my positive pregnancy test and never went back.

As for the coffee...I couldn't quite give that up. LOL I had one cup every morning and a half glass of pepsi every afternoon. My daughter was just fine.

Astarte,

Congratulations! Not a lot of people can break habits that quickly. When I found I was pregnant (20 yrs ago), I gave up cigarettes cold turkey...and not to mention my social life...at the time I was in an unhealthy relationship. Codependent on my ex I wasn't focused on nurturing my life. That relationship lasted almost 16 years which I found so hard to get out of.

Thank you. I am proud of myself, but honestly, there was never even a question about it. It was what had to happen. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around how women can continue to abuse substances while pregnant. Carrying a child was the most important job I had ever been given. I guess some women just don't see it that way...sadly...

Haha-I hope I don't offend anyone...
but I used to say the reason for morning sickness early on is because your body is rejecting it because it looks like an alien. When your body realizes it is not an alien invasion, but a baby, then you aren't so sick.

astarte502-
I went through something similar to your situation with cocaine. Now I am really struggling with understanding why some people are able to make those changes and others never change. I keep hearing about the same old people doing the same old things...not to mention my son's father...

Some people are just stronger than others I think. The years that I used cocaine, I did it because I could. I was single and responsible for only myself. The whole time I knew I wasn't going to do it forever and someday, something would give me the reason to stop. Pregnancy was that something. I used ALOT but it was always for recreation. Most people use to escape. Maybe that is the difference??

I KNEW IT! I knew coffee wouldnt harm the baby. I'm still having a cup each morning, I can't seem to give it up. Besides, my mom didnt cut down on caffeine intake when she had me. And I came out normal... I think.

You mean strawberry lemonade has caffeine? I still drink lemonade, or green iced tea at lunch time.

I don't think strawberry lemonade has caffeine but it has sugar. I need a lemonade right now, with a little rum in it Wink

I had to give up sugar when I was pregnant both times Frowner and I love sugar.

i also had to cut down on sugar. My sugar levels went up when I got pregnant -- and to think I have a sweet tooth! So no cakes, ice cream, chocolates and mangoes for me. all the things I liked to eat were prohibited! Mad

That's why I want to give birth soon so I can indulge again.
