Hi! I was wondering what your gals labor was like? Mine was so easy so I'm almost afraid to have another child. I was having contractions and didnt know.I bartended a 13 hour shift then went to the hopital because it was starting to hurt to pee and I was doing that like every 5 min no joke. When I got there I was fully dialated and my water hadn't broke yet. I pushed 5 times my water broke and the next push my daughter was born. I was there like an hour, never needed pain meds, didn't rip or anything. I know most are not like that so I was just wondering.

You probably had no problem because you were active during your pregnancy (bartending)....

Macie (13) was almost a month late, the Dr. induced and she did not want to come. He Jelled me the 2nd day and here came my 9lb baby girl 20 minutes later.

Amber (12) I was also bartending up until the day that I had her, infact, I was supposed to bartend on one of the bussiest nights of the year, New Years Eve...Amber had other plans. We live in rural AZ, the hospital is 92 miles away....I woke up on New Years Eve morning and felt a pain (did not know what labor pains were because I did not have them with Macie).....got to the hospital and was there for 15 minutes and she was out (also 9 lbs)....

......and along came Julia (4)...... I was going right into the OR to have my tubes tied after she came out, so the Doc gave me an epidural (sp?)......NEVER fealt a THING!!! Infact...DR. was telling me to push and I could barely figure out how.... Julia was 7lbs 11 oz....

I did not even have Tylonel with the 1st 2...had I have known how smoothe the epidural was I would have had it with them too Smiler

Moral of the story is....(in my book) all labors are different Smiler

Easy pregnancy (near textbook) and 26 hours labor with the first, I was going in for an induction but was in early labor when I came in to start that. I wasn't effaced or dilated yet. It was a really bad labor with back labor because she didn't flip over the right way until we got to pushing. She was a pain all the way out and complications after her birth too. She was a healthy 8 lb 9.8 oz. baby and has had only minor ear infections since.

Pre-term labor from 20 weeks (bed rest for the next 19) through week 39 and 10+ hours labor with my son. I didn't have an epidural with my daughter and thought I'd go natural with him too. 10 hours in and I realized b/c her labor was so harsh I was tense and nervous about him coming. I finally got the epidural so I could relax and dilate. I relaxed immediately and 20 minutes after they stuck the needle in my back and he was here. 7 lbs 1 oz. No complications with his delivery at all. Though...he's been a sickly kid - go figure!

I had 22 hours of God-awful labor with Alex. Didn't get the epidural until 18 hours into it. I pushed him out pretty fast but ended up with 33 vaginal stitches. He was only 7lbs 2oz!!!

With Katie I had an induction. Only 7 hours of labor and some great drugs through most of it but the epidural sucked and I ripped almost as bad with her as I did with Alex. I only required 12 stitches that time. She was only 6lbs 14oz

After having 2 4th degree lacerations with the first 2 kids my new doctor decided that a c-section would be a good idea so that I didn't develop a fistula a few years down the road. Ryan was a much bigger baby weighing 8lbs 1oz and was 22 inches long. Thank God for Dr Crawford in his infinite wisdom for giving me a c-section. There is no WAY I would've been able to push the little dude out.

A friend of mine has absolutely no labor pains and no pain pushing her kids out. Just a little pressure when the baby crowns and that's it. We hate her....lol.

I wouldn't have changed a thing about my daughter's birth. Went into real labor (semi-painful contractions) at about 4am on Dec. 13th, a day before my due date. Contractions went well and relatively pain free until about 11am. My midwife broke my water at about 11:30 and then my contractions suddenly became unbearable, I thought I was going to pass out and throw up at the same time. Although I wanted to try a water birth, there was meconium in the amniotic fluid, so that canceled out giving birth in the jacuzzi tub. Since that option was out and I couldn't even sit in the water until I had dialated 7cm to see if that would help manage the pain (I was 6cm dilated at this time) I decided to go for the epidural. I LOVED not feeling a thing after that point, I even took a nap for a few hours and got to enjoy watching the birth of my daughter in the birthing mirror. After about 45 min of pushing, my little Jade Laurel was born at 5:08pm weighing a healthy
9 lbs 2oz, and is still as healthy as on ox, only being sick with a little cold twice in her life (she is now 16 mths old). My labor was a little over 13 hrs and I only had 2nd degree tears, requiring a few stitches and healed up like a champ. My midwifes were awesome! My daughter's birth was everything I dreamed it would be.

So you liked having a midwife? I think that I have said this before but I live in a small bush village in Alaska and they dont deliver babies here. The hospital hasnt had a baby there in over 8 years so that was scary. But after it was all done I thought to myself that next time I would like todo it with a midwife and not at the hospital with all the cords hooked up and be able to relax a litte more.

Oh you EASY LABORERS MAKE ME SICK!!! I started labor with my daughter (6yrs) on Wednesday. She was not born until Saturday, January 13 at 10:09pm. I had/have never used drugs or anything like that before, but the pain was terrible. They gave me the epidural which slowed down my labor and didn't work. I was still able to walk and lift my legs, and I still felt everything. Then they gave me Potossin(sp) to speed up the labor which didn't work and only made me sick and vomit all over the place. The doctors had to break my water. She was being sooooo stubborn and really wanted to take her time with her grand entrance. I was miserable, and then I stayed at 6cm for like 24 hours. Then, I kind of pushed on my own (not letting my doctors know, which I don't recommend to anyone), but when I did that I got to 8cm in like 1 hour. Then FINALLY, got to 10cm and it was time to push. The doctor and nurse were leaving out of the room and I yelled "Where in the **** ARE YOU GOING" So they came back and I pushed 3 times and she was out. Oh, and she ripped me from one end to the other. But the weird thing was, that right after I had her all I could think about was going to take a shower. The hospital I had her in is a women's hospital so I had my own HUGE room and a full-bathroom in my room. So I went to take a shower (against doctors orders) right after labor and stayed in the shower for about an hour. I was never sore or anything after birth. I went through tortuous pain during labor and NO PAIN at all after birth. NONE, honestly. I never even felt my stitches. I pray my second labor is as easy as some of yours and I pray my re-covery is as speedy and painless as my first. And GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Oh I felt every freakin stitch and couldn't sit normally for almost a month with BOTH my oldest kids. The initial pain right after having the c-section was pretty bad but I healed much quicker and you don't have to sit on those stitches!!! lol

Mine was quick! I was induced two weeks early because she was found to be very small. The drip started at 1:30pm, labour started at 3:30pm, and there was no time for painkillers. My doctor made it just in time to catch my daughter at 6:33pm. She came out so fast I tore, and ugh getting stitched was the worst part of the whole thing. That and I lost so much blood I wasn't allowed out of bed for 24 hours. Anemia with a new baby is NOT fun! Lol.. She was 5lbs 8 oz at birth, only 20 inches long, and to look at her now? 3 yrs later, she's still only 30 lbs, but she's 3ft3!! Who the heck gave her the tall genes? I'm only 5'3"!

Amy you will hate me too Smiler

I had mild cramping on the 15t(two weeks before due date).. and told myself that that couldn't possibly be labor, b/c it was so mild. ran errands with warren all day, even went to dinner with warren's dad and step-mom. at about midnight i woke warren to tell him to be ready and that perhaps he should go ahead and call work b/c i didn't think he would be making it in... he didn't believe and went back to sleep. took a bath, called my mother. at about 2:30 i told him we needed to leave... at this point i was in a bit more pain - enough to know this was it, but i was functioning fine

got to the hospital (warren even let the engine in the warm up before driving away, i coulda killed him for that one). the woman admitting me was giving me a hard time about something and my body took revenge by breaking water on her office chair Smiler

got an epidural ... and literally fell asleep... well sorta, i could hear what was going on around me. my sister was there and she was great - my family was driving me nuts b/c i didn't want them at the hospital right away and had been telling them for months..

anyways, only pushed for about 30min. the midwife almost didn't make it in time and the nurse and my sister pretty much did everything.

no taring... tobi was 5 lbs 2 oz (no one seemed to know why he was so small) and jaundice (but everyone in my family is) warren's parents came in the room minutes after he was born (still in delivery room) after having not spoken to me throughout the entire pregnancy and trying to coerce me to give him up for adoption and nearly disowning their son for standing by me.

wow, i suppose that really didn't need to be that long

Taylor's mom, although I had a midwife I still gave birth in the hospital. In my area, you have the choice of going with a midwife or a doctor. Midwife's will help you deliver your baby at the hospital or at home, your choice. I went with a midwife because I had heard great things about her, she had delivered a couple of my friends babies. Plus, in general they are more willing to let nature takes it's course and not push unnessasary c-sections. They basically treat birth as something women have been doing throughout time, not a "medical condition". They were more my style. If midwifes are readily available in your village I say definintly check them out. I had a great experience with them. If you didn't have any complications with the delivery of your first baby, then a homebirth is something you should consider. If I have another baby, I will probably go for a home birth. I hated staying in the hospital for 24 hrs after the birth, I didn't sleep with people coming in every 2 hrs, I just wanted to be in my own bed. Good luck in you decision!

Oh and I forgot. When I was pregnant with Alex and talking about the "all natural" approach a good friend gave me some very good advice.

You don't get a gold star for having pain.
