Okay I am trying to help one of my brothers & My sister-in-law...They are having their second baby,a boy , in July. My nephew/Godson that they have now is named Aidan Patrick O'Connell Yegh & he's a red head too...lol..Irish much!!
They are having a hard time w/ the new baby's name b/c they both LOVE the name Colin Daniel but whenever they say the name to people they get a "weird" reaction..Colin O'Connell. So What do you think ~ is it too much?
Part two is How did you come up w/ your kids names...any funny stories?
My son got his name from the movie 16 candles:
Jake...It would have been Jake Ryan, but I put Patrick in after my Mom~ Patricia. I just heard it & thought it was a "cool kid name"...lol!!
I bet he's glad I didn't go w/ Long Duck D0NG!!

Question:
Do You think the name Colin O'Connell is "too much" & that he'll get teased in school or be embarrassed as a grown man?

Choices:
yes
no

Hey Jaylie - LOVE the Jake Ryan tie-in! I just saw that movie a few months ago - yes, for the first time.

I voted to nix the name. Sorry.

When I grew up monogrammed shirts with middle initials were all the rage. My initials were LAC and I got such grief from "lack" that I always run initials in my head when folks tell me names. My poor boyfriend was Gerald Andrew Yenchik... we all called him Andy, but oh the grief he got.

I struggled with Faith Katrina as her initials are FKC which make me uncomfortable. But, for 15 years I wanted her and I bought items that said "Faith" everywhere I went. Signs, pictures, ornaments, knick-knacks, garden stones - everything. It was like God's promise to me - my version of Noah's rainbow if you will.

I never would have chosen Katrina as a middle name, but it is as a direct result of 6 volunteer trips to the gulf coast after Hurricane Katrina that she was conceived, so it just sort of had to be.

I dont think Colin O'Connell would have any trouble as a grown-up. The middle initial makes it cool. Mr. Colin D. O'Connell - love it! But even without the last name, Colin is so close to colon and well, kids can be brutal. Then again, they'll find something else to pick on if it is not the name...

If you think you can, or you think you cant - you are right.

Oh Laurie...YEARS of catholic school I know all to well about those initals>>> The Nuns LOVE to put initals on the board & growing up mine were K O'C....You bet your sweet patutie' I got some flack there!!
As I grew older & had to inital stuff I changed them to KO...I'd rather be a Knock out than a "K0C" anyday...LMAO!!

hey Jay lie, I also voted to nix the name. I love the name Colin (good strong Irish name (have you seen Colin Farrell lately..lol) also like the surname O'Connell..but you'd want to be nuts to put them together. Daniel O' Connell on the other hand sounds great together.

Hey Jaylie

Well, I think Donovan O'Connell sounds fantastic Wink

(and, no my son's name is not Donovan...it was my first choice, but sounded ridiculous w/ my last name) Are they specifically looking for a 'good irish name'? How about Kieran O'Connell. Anyway, i'm nixing 'Colin' just because it's not a real good flow.

Thanks Hanzi..
My brother likes Declan and My sister-in-law likes Liam so I guess they do like the Irish names..LOL!! The ONLY one they agree on & love is Colin...but they're afraid of all the Cs & Os & Ls & N's & singsongyness of it. Although my nephew Aidan already referrs to Mommy's belly as Colin...LOL!! I do have a niece Colleen( another brother) too so how about those Cs & Ls & ...

What's wrong with a little teasing... boys are turning into a bunch of sissy's these days.

I vote the name him "Sue".

A Boy Named Sue
-Johnny Cash

Well my daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to Ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze
Now I don't blame him because he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left he went and named me Sue

Well he must have thought it was quite a joke
And it got lots of laughs from a lot of folks
It seems I had to fight my whole life through
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head
I tell ye life ain't easy for a boy named Sue

Well I grew up quick and I grew up mean
My fist got hard and my wits got keen
Roamed from town to town to hide my shame
But I made me vow to the moon and stars
I'd search the honky tonks and bars
And kill that man that gave me that awful name

Well it was Gatlinsburg in mid July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry
I'd thought I'd stop and have myself a brew
At an old saloon on a street of mud
There at a table dealing stud
Sat that dirty mangy dog that named me Sue

Well I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a wornout picture that my mother had
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye
He was big and bent and gray and old
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said my name is Sue how do you do now you're gonna die
Yeah that's what I told him

Well I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down but to my surprice
He got up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kickin' and a gougin' in the mud and the blood and the beer

I tell you I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when
He kicked like a mule and bit like a crocodile
I heard him laughin' and I heard him cussin'
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first
He stood there looking at me and I saw him smile

He said son this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it he's gotta be tough
And I know I wouldn't be there to help you along
So I gave you that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's that name that helped to make you strong

Yeah he said now you have just fought one helluva fight
And I know you hate me and you've got the right
To kill me now and I wouldn't blame you if you do
But you oughta thank me before I die
For the gravel in your guts and the spit in your eye
Because I'm the son of a bitch that named you Sue

Yeah what could I do what could I do
I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
Called him Pa and he called me son
And I come away with a different point of view
And I think about him now and then
Every time I tried every time I win
And if I ever have a son
I think I'm gonna name him Bill or George anything but Sue

LMAO HB that is just not right.

If I had a son I had thought of: James William (after my dad), Xander Matthew, and one that I cant put down cause if I have a son, I will probably use that name if the father agrees.

Just an update : Jaylie's brother and sister-in-law are now proud parents of baby Colin, born late Tuesday night.

My moms name was Sandra (Sandy) Casl - heard a lot of stories about how she got teased about that one when she was young!

My oldest, Hunter, was a suggestion from a friend when we were stuck (both liked a different name & can't remember what they were) - we liked it immediately. Then Tyler was a name we liked, worked well with Hunter & with the middle name David we had picked out.
