"Doing what I can"
SFV JUNKIE!!!

Yet again my parents brought up a fall Disney trip. They are paying for Kai to go with them but I'm not going to go. Their story: they will take Kai because grandparents are suppose to be able to make those kinds of memories. They dont think it matters if I'm there on her first trip or not.

I will not be able to go anyway because I cannot afford it but I really want to. I really dont want Kai to go there for the first time without me. Heck, anytime without me . . . I dont know what to do. I feel kind of selfish if I dont allow her to go just because I cannot.

Question:
Would you allow your child to go to Disneyworld for the first time without you?

Choices:
Yes
No
Depends . . . please explain

My parents are taking both Trey and I to Disney World this summer...This is something to be shared by FAMILIES, not grandparents only....That is my opinion flat out....Tell them take us both or nothing...

I understand the sentiment. I would be hurt if they didn't offer to include me. But I wouldn't let my kids miss out because of my feelings. It will be magical the second and third time too.

I think it's selfish on your parents part to want to do this without you. A trip alone to Disney with grandparents...yes of course...her first trip...NOPE. Disney is all about magic and seeing your child experience that magic for the first time is really quite special.

Anyway....I voted N O spells NO....

Wouldn't your parents pay for you to go as well? You'd think they'd want to share it together with you too.

I'd allow her to go...be bummed that I didn't get to go with her... but personally would never spend the money to go even if I had it. It's just not my thing. At least she's getting to go. My daughter probably never will.

I really think I would lay it all out there and tell them they are breaking your heart by making you chose. I'd ask if I could trade future birthday and Christmas gifts in exchange for paying for you to go as well. Then I would look at them with the same saucer eyes you mentioned in Kai and hope for the best... Good luck girl.

Smshybug,

I though about this all day. If the situation was reverse would i like allow kayley to go to disney trip without me. Heck no! You are not being selfish if you don't allow kai to go. I totally understand where you coming from. Kai is your daughter and NOT your parents. I'm sure your parents were present for your first trip, too. i'm so sorry that your parents are making you choose. I know you will do best thing for Kai.

Good. The Kaiser will only go to the Magic Kingdom for the first time once. Be there or be square.
