Greetings all!

I came across this site while looking for single parent support groups in the Boston area. Reading some of the posts it seems that a lot of you are looking to meet other single parents in similar situations for socialization, so I thought I'd create a new post with information about one of the groups I'm involved with.

If you go to http://singleparents.meetup.com/417/ you can check us out. You'll have to sign up and be approved but Meetup.com is basically free (we ask for a $2 membership fee to help pay for use of the site). This is NOT a for-profit group!

Once approved you can see the types of activities that we like to setup for adults and kids. These events include:
Playdates (Toddlers)
North End Dinner (Adults)
Childrens Museum (Families)
Laser Tag (School Age)

We are NOT a singles dating group, our goal is to give parents suddenly on their own the opportunity to socialize and make new friends with people in the same situation.

So please take a chance, sign up and check us out!

Andy

As stated, the group is not for profit. Meetup.com makes money from people hosting their groups, but our group does not make money.

If you choose to take a look at the site you'll see that everything is operated on a volunteer basis. People open their homes for playdates and cookouts and organizers spend their own time and money setting up events like nature walks, museum visits and camping trips.

I thought that I was helping out with what appeared to be a common question: Are there people in the area that are in a similar situation who want to get together for activities? If my post was inappropriate then feel free to notify a moderator and have it deleted.

I hope that anyone else who has questions or concerns will contact me privately for more info.

Andy

Hmmm...I'm not sure why bishop thought you were a spammer, but I can vouch for your group.

I attended my first event (Museum of Fine Arts) today and it was great. Mostly adults, but little Bobby had fun and it was good to get out with other parents from the area. The crowd was younger than PWP, although I think I was still the youngest parent there.

There's more events coming up that look pretty good: CSI at the children's museum, Holiday parties, NYE at Gunstock. There's a lot more than that, actually, but I can only make the weekend events North of Boston. I'd recommend checking the group out and seeing what's going on. It looks like Caitlin's already a member?

Later,
Bobby

Glad to hear the 2nd paul. Maybe meetup will have a national get together sometime?

You know, I think bikejon posted about meetup on here long ago. I checked them out then, but they didn't have a Single Parents group then...

I don't know what Bishop's issue is either.
I am a member of several meetup groups in Boston. They are great people. No one is out there trying to hook you into anything.

What makes it great is that it is not a dating site, like funfunfun.org, which is a meat market. Its just people with similar interests/situations getting together. I find I cannot always get friends to do something I like (ex; see a foreign movie). Thats where meetup comes in handy.

I like the arthouse movie group and the regular Medford movie group. Will have to check out the single parent one.

Thanks for posting, Andy.

The "Problem", as someone termed it, is that the spammer pattern on this forum (and others) is that the offender joins, and their first post is for a site or service they're pushing. This poster fits that pattern. So don't pile on the Deacon.
