I plan on giving breastfeeding a shot, seeing as how I only have a month off then back to work. But, I'm not quite sure how it'll go when I do return to work; I don't know if they'll put me on a full 8 hr day or not cuz I also planned on pumping. I work for a childcare center that has 5 centers; my son will be at a different one than I work at. My question I guess is; how was it for others when returning to work for breastfeeding? I don't think I'll be able to pump while at work.

Im not back to work yet but I plan on pumping. I'm worried that my milk will dry up though being away from him for so long.
You will have to pump at least every 4 hours the minimum I think. Talk to your job to see what they can do for you. Being a child care center I would think they would be breastfeeding friendly. |

I was unable to breatsfeed so I don't know that much about the subject. I do know the mothers Who have breast feed their children in my daycare would come on their lunch hour and breast feed the babies ..I encourage it at least untill they are one year if they work close enough to here. Ever consider that?

I pumped when I went back to work, and spent my lunch hour with my son nursing him. It's a pain to carry around all the gear, but it sooo worth it. I also worked at a daycare that my son went to, we were in different buildings though, and they were really good about setting aside room for me to pump. Don't settle for pumping in the bathroom if there is another spot available! Who wants to prepare their child's lunch in a bathroom, yuck!
Every time I was irritated by the whole pumping procedure I tried to think of all the pros... -of course it is the best thing for your baby -it is cheap -it helps you loss weight -no having to make bottles in the middle of the night -you don't have to pack bottles and formula when you go on a trip I could go on and on, and you will have your own reasons, but just keep them in mind anytime you start feeling like it's not worth the hassle of pumping. I am New to SFV |
I was fortunate. My boss created a room for me that became a nursing room for other mom's pumping. They weren't using the room anyway. She saw me pumping in the bathroom & made it happen. But my breast would let me know when it was time to pump. I would use my lunch time & breaks to get it done. if u have a set lunch/break, it will take a little time for your body to adjust but eventually your breast will only fill up when u pump & when the baby feeds.
Today they have so many new types of pumps. that will be the hard part, finding a pump that you like. |

i was also fortunate, my office had a lactation room. every time i got "the urge" i would just take a personal break and make use of it. i was able to work out a schedule with my manager that worked for me. i didn't dry up by pumping, i actually produced more milk cos i was pumping way too often causing me to leak. after a while my body got used to a schedule and i could almost time to the minute.when i decided top stop lactating i still made use of the room to take naps. very bad i know but i was the only person who used it. if you do not have a room reserved specifically for this purpose, i would suggest a bathroom. most pumps can be charged or used with a batteries.

I have been doing the pumping at work. I try to do it 3 times in my 8 hour work day but sometimes I only get to do it 2 times.
My baby is now 3 months old and he seems so hungry all the time. He doesn't want the boob some times and I get frustrated because then I will give him a bottle and he will take it. Then there are days where he will like the left more then others where he wants the right more. And he will cry like crazy if I give him the wrong boob. |
