It's been four days since I delivered but I still dont have milk. Eeker My mom recommended that I drink a lot of soup and start pumping so I'll have some milk soon. So far no milk yet. Red Face My mom also had little milk when she had us, so I'm thinking this is genetic? Or should I do something to have some milk? Help please, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Smiler

I was unable to breast feed all 3 of my children for various reasons but they were all very healthy and we bonded just fine. It's not the end of the world if you're unable to nurse your son!

Have your checked any breast feeding sites on the internet? Pumping is always a good idea since the more the milk ducts get stimulated, the more milk they produce. I would call the hospital and ask to speak to a lactation specialist. If they're unavailable there, then try asking to speak with a nurse. Maternity nurses should have enough training to help you successfully nurse your son.

Hey....what a cutie pie your baby is....as far as the breast milk...your breasts need to be stimulated...get in the shower and let the warm water run....drink lots and lots of water...it might take a little bit of time but don't forget to supplement while you wait.

Good luck

Thanks ladies! I've been researching on the internet, and most of the sites say pumping is the way to stimulate nursing (some sites say that the milk starts to flow between 48 to 72 hours after childbirth). I started pumping yesterday but no milk yet, altho I can already feel them coming. And yes, I'm drinking a lot of water and eating mostly soup nowadays. Smiler

Putting the baby to your breast to nurse as often as possible and pumping are the best way to get the milk to come. It's a supply and demand thing, no demand (nursing or pumping) and there will be no supply.

Also try fenugreek. It'll make your pee, milk and body smell like maple syrup and you need to take like 3 pills 3 times a day (minimum) but it helps boost your supply Smiler

Hi misifer! Thanks for the advice. My problem is Ian is already used to the taste of formula milk (that's what they gave him at the hospital the first couple of days) and he's used to getting milk from a plastic nipple. He doesnt want to nurse, and when I give him breastmilk, he would reject it because it tastes different from formula. Frowner So what I do, I just pump an ounce of breastmilk and then I mix it with another ounce of formula so he gets to drink breastmilk. My supply is still low, I'll try your suggestion about the fenugreek, hopefully I'll increase supply soon. Thanks for the input!

Even if that is true, wouldn't you be passing the alcohol thatis in your blood stream into the milk and then into the baby? I mean you are already giving the baby dead viruses and stuff in yout body, why not the alcohol too?
