Thought maybe others might be interested.
I recently found out about cloth diapers. I know... EEEWWW gross. right??? BUT they have changed from back in the old days. No more rinsing in a bucket. Now, all you do is dumb the poop in the toilet, flush, put the liner in the pail and put a new liner in the babies cover diaper. You only need to do laundry about every 2-3 days. Its so easy! I will be trying it for my new born. Why do cloth?? Disposible has so many bad things. If any of you probably noticed, they have chemicals that is in the form of gel and will stick to the babies genitals. ALSO, there is the possiblity of the plastic melting to the baby, the baby pulling apart the diaper and sticking peices in his/her nose and mouth, and the chemicals that make the diaper work (by obtaining the pee) also pulls liquid outa your babies skin. Nice huh? I am not dissing disposible, they are good if they work for you. Just like if you perfer the bottle over breastfeeding. Its just that I was not fully informed before, thats all. Cloth for 1 year is about $300. For disposible, its $1500. Such a difference. Of course you would sometimes have to use disposible if you went out for long periods of time and dont have a washing machine. I will tell you guys how well it worked out!! i have never tried cloth dipers and i know they are probibly differnt then how they used to be however i have herd bad things about them from my grandmother. I use the disposable it is easyer for me i figure i have enough loundry as it is. It seems like it would be difficult to get all the bateria out of the cloth but i am no expert and it semms to me like you got it down prety good you are probibly very organized i know first hand that when you brest feed you have to plan in advance before you go out, you have to make shure you eaither have a bottle pumped or you have a private place to feed your baby. you sound like a good mom good luck with the dipers.

Just like technology in all other arenas of life, cloth diapers have changed dramatically. My son wore them and with the wonders of fleece and velour lined, clean up was a cinch and I saved *so* much money over disposable.
I used disposables when he was in daycare and sometimes when we were out and about, they certainly have their place, but if someone wants to save a good deal of money and have no more work than an extra load of laundry or two a week then cloth is definitely worth looking into.  (There's lots of great cloth diapering info on the web, one just has to look for it.) |

we also used both. But not the old fashioned cloth diapers. It worked a lot like the disposables, only, you were able to take out the liner and wash the parts separately.
1 or 2 loads of HOT laundry more a week is all it is. But the diapers are very expensive, you have to buy a bunch to make it worth while the wash load (I used the brand 'Delfino'), and money wise I don't think it was a gain. It still made me feel better, kinda  . And then, you never know, I might re-use them still. You DO have to change the cloth diapers more often, because as soon as it gets wet, the child is wet (while the disposables will absorb a lot before the child gets wet). |

I used cloth with my daughter and it was great! I used them at the end of my son's diaper days when I learned of them. They are expensive to buy in the begining. But you can join lots of diaper swap groups and buy them on ebay used. Not as gross as it sounds.
Then when you are done with them, you can resell them on ebay and make some of the money back. After I bought what I needed and resold them, I diapered my daughter for about $50 (net) for the first year!I stopped using them when their dad and I split. Had to move back in with my parents for a short while, they dont have hot water hooked up to their washer and I just didn't have time anymore for the little bit of extra work cloth takes. It was too much with everything else going on. I think it's great for someone how has time to think about it, and doesnt have so many committments that they can the extra "brain space" to remember to wash them when needed. I have enough trouble trying to remember to do laundry every week!  |

my kids are now out of diapers but i used the old fashioned cloth with both. rubber pants and everything. it was alot of work, alot of rinsing out dirty diapers in the commode, but worth every second. my kids didn't like funny diapers (disposable) and they knew when they went they were wet. i had no problem with potty training. the hardest part was finding the diapers. they only had a few accidents when they got their training pants. disposables are darn handy but i think it would make training harder. and when they are done with the diapers they make the best rags!
