My son is almost 14 months old and doesn't seem to want to give up on nursing. I don't even know where to start! He has an early morning 5am feeding and thats the one that will be the hardest to break. He just plays with a sippy cup or bottle, he would never take a soother. I guess I think i may be ready for a little more freedom. I also had a different sort of question....I was wondering if anyone had problems viewing their breasts in a sexual manner again. Also, is it likely that after i decide to discontinue nursing that I will gain weight. In which case I may never stop!

I know what you're talking about LOL. All the other mothers were talking about 'when to wean the baby' and so on, and I kept thinking, 'what exactly do you do when he wants to drink and won't be satisfied until you breastfeed him'. But at a certain point I just said that I did not want to do this any more. We only had that early breakfast feeding left, he ate and drank normally the rest of the day. So one morning we just skipped it, went to eat breakfast at the table, and I believe it was my inner decision that made it possible in the end.
Regarding the other aspects...I lost about 5 pounds in 2 weeks when I finally stopped breastfeeding, and looked (and felt) like normal after that. That was kind of a relief too. I know other women don't see it this way, but I thought breastfeeding for 13 months was exactly the right length of time.

Ya I can't see myself denying him of what he wants, but i've heard if they dont wean themselves by 1 year its pretty much up to you! So I guess I'll be doing it forever! I am very worried as to haw bad my breasts will look. they look pretty deflated right now I can't imagine them getting worse but I have a feeling they will!!!!!! I'm 21 with the body of a 40yr old!

LOL I SO know how you feel.

When I weaned both of my son's we were both ready, but I had been ready for a few months before them. At one point you do feel like you want your freedom, it is a lot easier when they'll go to bed without nursing, or you can leave them without worrying if they'll eat/drink while you're gone.

I nursed both boys and am currently nursing the baby, so I'm kinda a pro at it lol.

Have you tried different sippy cups? A friend of mine's baby would only drink out of an Avent sippy because it had a soft spout. You can keep trying the sippy, I had weaned my first onto a bottle, and since he was 13 months, I don't reccomend that LOL.

And you can see your boobs as sexual again, it's not so weird after they're not used for feeding your baby anymore. Smiler Hang in there mama, you're doing a good job!
