i breastfeed my son who is 9 months old. id like to get a spray on tan that last only 4-7 days or so. i have plans and want to look non pasty for once! i called the tanning place and they said that the mystic tan machine has taken women who are breast feeding before but its always best to ask the doctor first...which i am but i was wondering if anyone knows info on this topic of spray on tan while breastfeeding? has anyone gotten it done? thanks

I think I can answer your question. First... red and thinker.... spray on tan is a temporary "self" tanner that is applied with an air brush, by someone else, to get more even distribution.
Bear, I would suggest that you wear a bra or swim suit top that you don't care about. Reasoning ... as the tanner wears off the baby may get it in his mouth. I do not know what the ingredients are and would not suggest getting it on your breasts. Another thing... some of these I have seen are rather coppery looking (artificial). Get it a day or so before your event so it can look more natural on your skin tone. Make sure you exfoliate very well before you go.... everywhere, especially knees, ankles and elbows.

I just reread my post.... I think you would get it but.... wear the bra/swim suit when you get the application so you do not get any tanner on your breasts.

Oh my your still breast feeding? Well he is still under 1 so bravo.. However, I lived with a foster mother who was a le leche league leader and I got really sick to my stomach when a 4 year old ran over to her mommy and pulled up her shirt and stuck her breast in her mouth?? Old enough to get the shirt and bra up old enought to get a cup! back to the issue..

I agree with Carla it is better to be safe than sorry wear a bra or swim suit top or wear pasties they sell them cheap at novelty shops like spencers.. cover the nipple area!!

I personally did not like the mystic tan very much. It looks natural enough except that if you don't put the barrier lotion on your knuckles, feet, elbows and knees with a thick enough coat or if you don't wear the cap like they tell you to, or wipe off as well as you should afterward you may end up with orange fingers and toes, a white hair line (that is very noticable) and streaks that look like tiger stripes. I watched the video and took pains to do EVERYTHING they said but my friend just did what she thought was a good job and ended up with all of the above. I also freaked a little in the booth because I am claustrophobic and the booth feels like a big blue coffin. It also smelled a little. I personally like Neutrogena foaming tan (without the bronzer) if you have someone to rub it on your back, no smell, no streaks and it looks natural. That was a mouthful, hope it helped.

I have never used self tanners, but I want to say kudos to still bf'ing! I am always excited to hear of those who bf'ed their babies. I was only able to bf'ed my son for less than 4 months, supplemented, due to health probs and with my dd, I am weaning her. She's 20.5 months old.
