Hello everyone. I'm Michelle and I'm new to this website. My friend suggested I join a single parents website to meet more parents like myself so here I am. Now here comes the venting. I am so frustrated. I am the mother of two children, a daughter 13 and a son 10. I've never been married but want it more then anything in the world. The only problem is every, cotton-pickin single relationship I encounter the person ends up being a jerk. I wonder if there are any good men out there at this point. All the men I meet look at me as a sex object and I get angry because I am much more then that. I am a true believer in the fairy tale romance and if that is what I want then don't you think that is what I deserve? Some of my friends tell me that I am living in a fantasy land and some feel that the fairy tale romance actually exists. My question is if I hold out for the fairy tale romance will I end up drying up and becoming an old maid?!??!?! I've told myself not to look for anyone and maybe that right person will come along. Are there any suggestions out there for a single mom of two? Any help is appreciated. Also how does everyone feel about the match-making websites?

Hi Michelle,
Well I can't give too much advice on the men issue, because I haven't really lucked out in that department either but, I do believe in holding out for what you really want. I would rather be on my own than be with someone that didn't truelly make me happy. We all deserve to be happy and content. I have heard positive notes from quite a few people about match.com ? I have been actually looking into it over the last week myself? Well anyway good luck to. Smiler

Hi, Michelle

As a man I agree that most men are jerks. Wink
Although not all of us are like that. I am in the process of my 2nd divorce, and I have began to wonder the same thing about women.

We just have to have faith that there are still some ppl out there with similar values and priorities. I wish you luck, I know I am not looking forward to being in the game again.

As far as the websites go Most of them I have seen will let you browse the personals, but if you want to actually communicate with the other ppl you have to pay. Let me know if you find any that are worthwhile.

Hi Michelle,

Matchmaking web sites are okay, but you're going to encounter the same kinds of people there as you do in the bars, at the laundromat, at the library, etc. It's simply a different medium for meeting them.

I tried it for two years and never met "the one." My advice is, use it if you're only looking for a pen pal, occasional dinner or movie date, or just to get back in circulation.

Go into it fully expecting that anyone you meet is most likely corresponding with at least one or several other people. This is true for both men and women (so, I'm not picking on the men here) - it's like a date catalog. If one thing doesn't work out people just move on to the next possibility. One thing you learn very quickly is that you're nothing special out there, and people have short attention spans.

I'm not sure if you're any more or less "safe" meeting people online. Trust your instincts. Don't give out any personal information unless you feel absolutely comfortable doing so.

Also, expect to occasionally get mail from married men, or guys who are just out for a one night stand. (In addition to the "date catalog" thing, some guys treat it like an escort service.)

Lastly, take all of this with a grain of salt. I tend to be a little pragmatic and hard-headed and sometimes come off sounding like too much of a pessimist. Smiler It does work well for some people so good luck!
