Okay I am here to vent once more. I rent from slum lords. My furnace hasn't worked in 4 months, my hot water tan went last week and there is mold growing in my bathroom. Now I have been trying to get out of this dump and I am having a problem. Low income housing has no spots because there is no low income housing available here. My landlord seems to think that this gives him the right to be a nob. I told him about the furnace and the hot water tank and the mold and he said when he gets to it. Well luckily atco gas is coming and giving me a new one and I have to pay them. The housing autority told me to take it off my rent which I have done and now I am getting evicted. Fun fun fun. I went and looked at a place on the other side of town for the boys and I and there is no chance in heck of getting it because they want to make sure I make more than double my rent in wages, which isn't a problem and that I have no passed bad credit history. Another place not available until the middle of July. Well thats fine and it is close to there school it would just take an entire chegue to pay the rent. Anyways there was an article in the advocate about a developer who wants to turn this empty park area into low income housing developments and the people in the community don't want it there. Are we contagious or something?? Anyways that is my complaint for the day.

Take your case to the landlord and tenant act. Explain to them your situation and why you've been evicted. I don't think it's legal for him to do that. I'd stay put until further investigation was taken. You may still be able to stay where you're at - at least until YOU'RE ready to move. As landlords, they have to provide tenants with the essentials. Heat and hot water are basic essentials. I think you did the right thing. The only thing you may get questioned on is over the fact that deducting this fee from your rent wasn't discussed prior to you doing this but because of your circumstance, they may be able to help you out anyway.

Thank you for the advice. Thatswhat the whole thing is coming down to is because I took it off my rent. Well I have the rent money now with major begging and pleading with some members of the outside family, but it says on my notice that the eviction order will still be in effect. I don't know what that means and no one is there on the weekends, so Monday I find out. My worry is I will pay them what I owe and then they turn around and still evict me and lock everything up. I am just way to stressed at the moment to think beyond anything.

Well I had a friend in a similar situation - slightly different cause but his landlord ended up evicting him and taking him to court. Long story short, he was forced to pay the rent but was aloud to stay in the apartment. So, if you plead your case and be firm as to why you did what you did - really, you only purchased a living necessity because your landlord wasn't doing what he was supposed to. In the end, they may make you pay that money because it was done without agreeance but they may dispute his eviction due to neglegance from his part.
Keep the money - don't spend it and take this to the landlord/tenant act. |

Well I buckled under and paid the rent, and now he says he might pay me for the hot water tank when he actually finds out it wasn't working. So when the paper work goes in we will see. If not I am taking it with me. He has let me stay here and after he said that I handed him my notice to vacate at the end of next month because this is bull crap. Anyways that was my day.

That is just crappy.
He knew it wasn't working. You had already complained about it. Well you don't want to be there so what would be the point I guess. But there are Ombudsman offices that are always good to know of for when you have issues. Check for one in your area. Good luck |
