Yesterday trevor (my kids dad)came home from school (which was weird for a tues nite)... we went out for dinner, and this is where him and my brother (who are best friends) offered up this 'proposal' for the summer.
Trevor and my brother Kyle have been offered a job at a ranch/resort, and they said they asked around, and one of the inns in the resort needs a summer manager. (this is where I come in), which is awesome, last summer i had a summer patrol job (for a local radio station), and i wanted something jsut to do a couple days a week this summer (this would be 5 days a week depending on how busy)
THERES A CATCH
Iam in the Southern most point of Ontario, and the job is in NORTHERN ALBTERA...approx 3,500KM (i think its about 2200Miles).
Now even on the catch there is a very good catch, lol. We wouldn't have to pay for living (free everything except long distance) we'd get a free meals on Sat and Sun and 1/2 off during the week, and we'd have to pay for our own gerceroies)...Theres a resort daycare, 75% off for employees (their main purpose is to take kids so parents can go horeseback riding, stuff like that)...AND we'd still be making over $10.00/hr.
Soooo...Trevor said he didnt want to go if I didnt, because that'd be 4mths away from the kids...and I reallly do want to go, I've never been that far North before, and I think it'd be a great experiance, i'd finally able to make good money (not the best, but good, lol)
Anyway its from mid May to mid Aug (for my position, which is perfect because Im done school the end of April, and I start back up in Sept)...I need to answer by next week, I feel guilty by wanting to take the kids away from the house they've known to move into a strange place 1/2way across the country! ...I'd miss my dad, I know the twins would adjust, they are really good at going with whatever (or have been so far)...I just feel weird uprooting them...even if it is jsut for 3mths...I think the usual manager is going on mat leave..even tho here mat leave is a year and shes only taking 3mths..i dont really understand that, but its what they told me, :S lol)

Sooo what do you think? I need some opinions here, I want to go, they'd finally have both parents semitogether for a while...I'd miss my small town.haha I dont know..
Any insight or advice would be greatly appriciated!!

I say do it. Sounds like you want too.
As long as you have a stash account with enough emergency money to get back here to Ontario. Just in case.

You could treat it like an adventure.

I agree, go for it! Otherwise you may not get a second chance and you will be kicking yourself later for it. You need to do whats best for your kids, and it sounds like this will be a great money opportunity. Just my 2 cents worth Wink

Ahhh Im so excited, I think I'm going to tell them tonight that its a yess! I cant believe it, lol...its going to be an awesome oppurtunity for us all!
And yah I'll have to have a plan to get back here..does anyone know how insurance works out there..is it the same as Ont since we're still in Canada?..is there anything else i need to think of?

Well here we have ohip, which is pretty much coverage for everyone (not including perscriptions or extras) but if we were to get sick and go to the hospital or dr here, we wouldnt have to pay, I know its totaly different in the states, but i wasnt sure how it worked out west, we do have coverage for scripts, but if needed, we'd have to go to a dr, and im just not sure if i needed to do anything to tell the government or just my insurance company, or what, Im going to the drs next week, so im going to ask what she thinks, but i figured i'd ask anyone who was out there.

And its near Legal Alberta, about an hr north of Edmonton, I have a friend working in Fort Assiniboine, one in Cochrane, and a few in Fort McMurry, but they dont have kids so they arn't to worried about inusurance or stuff like that, theyre pretty useless to ask, lol

Just on the OHIP part -- as far as I know, OHIP covers you for 3 months out of province. After that you have to register in the province you're in for the public health insurance plan. So if you're only out of ontario for 3 months, you're good.

Tell the kids its a 3 month family vacation. When you get back to Ontario, you'll go back to a regular routine. Think of the once-in-a-lifetime experience for them!! Awesome chance!
