Hi I'm new here. I was looking for more support groups for parents in general, and single parents in particular. I've been a single parent since my ex kicked me out when I was 3 mo pregnant. I now have a gorgeous 3 yr old girl. And I know I'm incredibly lucky, given all the stories I've heard about ex's. Mine doesn't give me any trouble, since we went to court. I have full custody, he has regular visitation. He shows up for his visitation on time, drops her back off on time, and voluntarily gives me child support (and even raises it according to gov't guidelines!!) We have no issues between us, and were even recently able to talk about what ended our relationship, so I now have closure to that. We will never be together again, but we may become friends in future. I am very thankful that I don't have to worry about my ex. I homeschool my daughter, and he's fine with that. I make all the decisions about what she does and who she's with, and he's fine with that too. I found my perfect job (I work from home on the internet) and I'm self supporting, and not on the system anymore either. I even get to complete college courses online. I just wanted to give you other single parents the encouragement that time does heal all wounds, or at least makes them less sharp, and that some of us make it. Maybe not right away (I have quite the story, lol!) but eventually you can succeed and raise a child and do stuff for yourself and feel like you're actually getting somewhere. It's doable! Keep at it, and you'll eventually reach a place where you can be happy. Good luck guys! Remember you are investing in the future with these kids, and it is the best job ever!
