Hi! I've been trying to get info about child support here in the city (process). I'm in Queens and would love to have/join a support group here. It's been really tough, esp, during the holidays. Wishing you all well.

Hi Krissy8,
You may try to post this in the child support forum as well. I'm not sure about NY, but here I know you can go to through the District Attorney's Child Support Division. You may want to call your local court house, district attorney and they should be able to steer you in the right direction for your area. |

Hi Krissy8,
I live in the city as well and have been through the child support process almost three years ago. If you need any info about the process (from what I can remember)send me a private e-mail and I will put together some information for you. In the meantime, start saving those receipts! Lynnise |

Lynnise (newyorkmama),
I have private messaged you my e-mail addy.Thank you. I have some additional questions. I was reading some guidelines for New York ChildSupport enforcement and it talks about the amount being based on combined parents'income. It also says it's 17% of non-custodial parents income. Then it says that if combined parents income is above 80,000 the court can but not necessarily go for a guideline above the 80,000. It's just confusing me. In which guideline am i going to get the short end of the stick. Why is there a guideline for non-custodial but then it talks about combined parents income? Please help. |

Krissy8,
Check your private e-mail. It was just way too much information to reply at one shot. Dont let combined incomes scare you. They look at expenses vs income and they are normally in favor of the custodial parent so yoy may need to establish that issue while you are at it.It is normally 17% of the non custodial parent's income and unless you earm WAY more tham him, it will be 17%.Just make sure that you have documentation of all expenses that you incur. Once you file it takes a while to get a court date (in NYC!) but once support is determined he will have to back pay to the date that you filed. Once again, check your mail. |

I am dealing with the child support process currently. It is such a hassle good grief. I have a lawyer to make it a lil easier for myself because I know I wouldn't be able to keep my composure. It is not just 17% of his income, but also he will have to pay whatever percentatge as well as medical expenses.
