Hi! Im Valerie and I am a single Mom of 4 year old boy. I would love to start a group for single parents in the upstate NY/ Hudson Valley area! All of my friends are married and they are wonderful but it would be nice to meet some people dealing with some of the same issues as myself. Also, weekends are tough because its "couple" time for my friends and sure, Im invited along but usually as a 5th wheel!
I had in mind a group that would get together for weekend activities like picnics, bowling etc. with our kids and maybe sometimes get togethers without kids! I'd love to organize a group camping trip. Basically looking for parents in a similar predicament to do fun things with our kids together and feel a sense of community. It would be great for my son to see that there are other families like ours - right now we all the families we are surrounded by are 2-parent traditional families. Ive looked into Parents w/out Partners but it seems the closest to this area is Westchester. If there's interest, I can see about starting a pwp group for this area. So -men,women, any age please respond and let me know if anyone is interested or knows of anything around! |

Hi Melissa - Im so glad to find another single parent locally! I know there are many but finding them seems to be so hard!
Do you think we should try to start local chapter of a national group like Parents w/out partners or start a local group? There was once a Middletown PWP but it seems to be defunct. Would you like to meet sometime? I was thinking of ways to spread the word around - possibly posting signs at public places and schools and see what kind of response we get. Let me know your ideas and if you'd like to get together sometime - I am a working Mom however I am lucky enough to have 6 weeks off in the summer so I am very flexible with my schedule right now! H

My apologies....I see you did contact me back I am new to this sight have no clue how it works! LOL ANYWAY....I work 8-5 but can make arrangements to meet anytime after that. Or on a Saturday or Sunday! Let me know....Is your child a girl or boy? I have a boy, his name is Tyler...I have almost 98% of the time...And would still like a life so why not include him in it and make new friends for both of us! Lucky you about having off in the summer! Hi........I'm a single dad living in the Hudson Valley and was suprised to see that there is little to no support for single parents available. There used to be a Parents Without Partners in Orange county but the group seems to have vanished. I would definitely be interested in a single parents group, but being a dad, and not having full time custody of my daughter might just put me in a more "specialized" group. I'm sure I face rather unique circumstances compared to all who have expressed interest. Well, if I don't fit into the group, could you please pass any info on to me that might be useful? I would also gladly help to support your effort in any way I can.
