I am currently living in Texas. I am in the process of breaking up with my current boyfriend. I live with him and I am moving out sometime soon. I have a son in preschool and he will be starting kindergarden in the same school he is now. I always wanted to live in NYC but for one reason or another never moved there. Nothing and no one is holding me now, I have no attachment here in TX. I am projecting moving to NYC in summer 2006 so that my son can start school there. I would like to know what it is like to live in NYC as a single mom. I am from Mexico, and I have no family anywhere here in the USA. I think NYC will be a good way to re-start my life with my son. There is an exhusband involved but he is in Hawaii, and I have sole custody of my son. Any input is greatly appreciated. I am glad to have found this site.

I am a single mom and reside in NYC. Honestly it is difficult in more ways than one. My daughter is 9. Bus picks her up in the morning to drop her off to school, then drops her off at the afterscool so I pick her up in the evening. It is stressful but I like the idea that I can do so much with her on weekends. You said you are from Mexico.There are so many hispanics here especially where I live (Queens). It is fun to see them enjoy the Flushing Meadow Park in the summer. If you have a job, and you are organised I think you can make it.It is expensive, but when you do your research, you will be surprised how many free or discount programs you can take your kids too. Public schools in the are where I am, is not so bad but I do have my daughter in catholic school.If you want to reside in a mix neighbourhood, but with alot of hispanics, you can check Flushing/Corona in Queens. By the way, rent is a killer but again I am surviving so can you. Good luck!!
