Hi guys,
I asked Robin would it be possible to add a UK site within the groups. There is a small, but growing group of us and I thought it may be appreciated.
As the laws, etc. regarding Social Security,CSA are so different from those in the US. I thought it would be more convienient for us who live in the UK to have our own place to discuss these and other relevant matters that are unique to the UK and Ireland. But still be part of the overall network.

We will see how it goes.

Again many thanks to Robin for allowing it.

And lots of hugs for everyone else.
With kind regards,

Mark

Hello everyone! Wouldn't mind a little advice/direction, here.

I'll be having a baby in May. After I passed the 20th week, a while back, the father finally stopped pressuring me to have an abortion (to give an idea of exactly how fervently he doesn't want this baby). My hands are well and truly washed of him, but I want to cross all the Ts and dot all the Is.

I know there's some sort of 'waiver of parental rights and responsibilities' document that I need to get him to sign, but I can't seem to find any infornation on how to go about obtaining such paperwork. I want to feel completely and utterly assured that at no point in the future will he be able to push himself into the picture and start making demands. Or, god f'bid something should happen to me - I want to be sure that the baby couldn't be legally swept away by him or his family.

Now, I know this probably sounds on the verge of sheer paranoia, but I think of it along the same lines as a prenuptial agreement. I'm not expecting the worst outcome, but I want to make sure all the bases are legally covered, should anything go wrong.

Also, I'll be moving to the US, once the baby is born, to be with my family, and I'm not sure if there are special international laws I'll need to be aware of. Any suggestions on where I can get info on all this?

Thanks.

T

Hi, Firstly welcome to us.
I think you need to see a good family solicitor. The Citizens Advice Bureaux are very good at selecting a good one.As you need advice on International Law pertaining to Minors.
The advice at the Bureaux is free. But you may need an appointment if they are busy.
If you are not working and in receipt of benefits you can claim legal aid at a Solicitor on production of your benefit entitlement such as Income Support book.
As with taking a baby over an International Boundary it would be worth asking the Foreign Office/Home Office just so the facts are right and up to date with current legislation both UK and US.

Best Wishes,

Mark

Thanks, Mark. That sounds like just the direction I needed. Definitely a good start.

Hmmm, I should have posted it as a new topic, though, shouldn't I have? Ah, well. Too late now.
