when my son was born, i decided not to have him circumsized before leaving the hospital. He had surgery for a kidney problem, so i got him circumsized during that surgery while he was under....now his penis is , how can i say this, its like a turtle stuck in the shell. that sounds kinda bad...its just that the doctor says that it will be ok...and not to worry about it. has anyone else had this problem before? if so, is there anything that i should be doing for it that im not? thanks for listening! Smiler

LOL, I am sorry but I had to laugh at your description of the problem in your post, the thing that is happening that you so wonderfully describe as the "turtle in the shell" is a defense mechanism by the body to deal with pain in that area. And yes it happens to adult males as well, any man who has had a vasectomy (or god wonders why a reversal), can attest to this, and as the body recovers and he gets older it will go back to normal.

I hope this helps eleveate some of your concerns.

If somebody lopped off the top of your head, would you not be prone to hiding what's left? Confused

Hey Kalebsmommy.
First of all Jonah has the same dilemma and his was done his first week of life. It even went as far at the hospital when I took him in @ 3 months old for a bad cough I was changing hi diaper and the resident even asked me if I got him circumcized. I was like man I thought there was a little too little head showing. I don't know... maybe it means he'll grow into it if you know what I mean Smiler

My little boy is the same way and he is 6 months old. I got him cut when he was in the NICU. My sister asked my if men were born with the same size of balls that they have when they get older!!! That made me laugh. But yes my boy is still "shell shock". I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I would watch it as well...the skin can grow back up over the part of the head and the doctor will need to pull it back down a little bit...I had it happen to all three of my boys...the third was not caught in time and he has a tunnel, so to speak, where the skin reattached itself to the end of the head...Doctor said it would stretch itself out as he gets older...

Seriously, if a doctor doesn't say it is a problem, the voices on a chat board are not going to be the solution except to validate your own concerns.

Change his diaper, love him and stop obsessing about where the dripper is laying.
