My 2 year old, at the time, was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome in July 2003. He was taken to University of Tennesse Med Center and stayed there for 2 weeks fighting this disease brought on by EColi. No one knows for sure what brought it on but he had been with his dad and grandparents the week prior to the onset. My son was discharged on August 11, 2003 and soon afterwards began having seizure-like activity (falling, eyes rolling back in his head, biting down, turning blue), which is an effect of HUS. After he fell in Sept. breaking his collar bone and in Nov. biting his tongue into and being seen by 6 other doctors, a 7th doctor ran an EEG and found it abnormal, putting my son on Depakote for seizures. This doctor also called Social Services who took my son away from me. They put my son in his paternal grandparents custody and he has been there since March 20, 2004. I had medical documentation showing I had tried to get help for my son but no one would believe that the bruising my son had was from the falling (seizures). They assumed my boyfriend was abusing my son- keep in mind my boyfriend was NEVER charged or even questioned about the matter. Off to court, and even with the abnormal EEG, medication and medical documentation stating "no apparent signs of child abuse" my son was taken away.. My son now lives with his dad, who moved back in with his parents, and I see my son once a week for 4 hours. I miss so much of my now, 3 year old sons life.. I am miserable. Afraid he will forget how much I love him and forget about me since I dont see him much at all. The G.A.L (my sons lawyer) stopped me after court (he wasnt asked to speak during hearing) and told me that a doctor he had interviewed said his bruising was possible from the seizures and falls. No one would listen. I work but dont make much money but one day I will get enough saved up and will fight this.. Maybe someone will listen this time.

Take your papers and go to the polices dept. Tell them what you have stated here, bring your proof and ask the if they will go with you to pick up your son. Let us hear back on this
