Is a 7 yr. old realley old enough to meet and understand meeting his father for the first time? I just got married back in October and he is getting used to my husband. Should I really throw another man in his life and confuse him? Eeker

I was seven when my mother remarried and my step dad came into my life. At first I didn't like how strict he was on me but now I wish he was stricter on me because he was only trying to give me the best life he could. I always considered him my real father because my biological father never had anything to do with my life by his choice. In a lot of ways I wish my wife would act the same way to protect my children from her incompetence.

7 is very much old enough to understand, but also the age where his or her imagination may make him or her desire something else even sometimes unrealistic. It will take time, but you must be patient and honest with your child. No matter what happens, honesty is the best way to go because in the end honesty is what your child will remember and help shape them most for the future.

I also agree that you son is old enough to understand. You will be surprised what our children already know. It's good to be honest with your son.
