I am New to SFV

I am a single mother of a 15 yr old boy who has recently begun smoking cigarettes and pot. He is a pretty decent kid now, but as I work full time, I'm afraid next summer could be a terrible turning point for him. I would like to find a camp in my area (Illinois) that is not too costly, but also is not like a reform type of school. Perhaps someone out there knows of a wilderness type of camp. My son enjoys camping, fishing, etc... He just seems to have fallen in with the wrong group of friends this summer. Any suggestions?

and there is also that summer job thing to keep him busy!!! as he is 15, you could suggest a job to save for a car and also have him take a local auto shop class so he will be able to fix it up. the cool thing about this plan is: NO DRIVERS PERMIT IF HE IS NOT CLEAN SOBER AND GRADES ARE UP!!
good luck![/qb]

In IL there are many camps (day and overnight) that have counselor in training and Leaders in training programs. These programs are geared towards jr and high school aged campers who may become camp counselors. They get to do everything the other campers do but they are learning a job and get to be more in charge. After one year as a CIT or LIT most camps give those teens priority of getting the counselor jobs the next year. If you would like more information please let me know. Hope this helps

My son went to the 4H camp this year. He's younger, but I believe they have counselor in training type programs and something called "extreme camping" for the older kids (mine's only 9) He loved the camp and can't wait to go back next year. The counselors were great and had a great attitutde. Google "camp shaw" for more info.
ps. pay close attention to where he's working if/when he gets a job, too. When I worked at McD's as a teenager, those "friends" were a much worse influence (parties, drinking, smoking) than my high school friends (that was many moons ago).
