I am New to SFV
Posted
Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting.

I am just looking for some thoughts from those of you out there that have had the other parent request to sign off his or her parental rights.

My ex-husband would like to do this. Here is some simple history. Our divorce has been final for just over one year. My choice when he became agressive and abusive (verbally and mentally). We have one son together that I have full custody of. Our divorce was a nightmare with the whole nine yards. Custody was our biggest issue. He did settle and now after all the **** he put my through he wants to sign off his rights. I know that in my heart of hearts this is the best for our son and I feel relived of all things. It will be hard financially, but in the best interest of all of us.

Any thoughts or advice.

We are currently working on paper work and are hoping to have this done before the New Year. Just in time to start fresh in 2008.

Thank you!

This has been discussed previously on here, you might want to do some reading through law/legal issues forum, custody/visitation as well. Maybe a search for *parental rights*

Anyway, it is usually next to impossible to get a judge to agree to that...unless there is someone else that is willing and ready to adopt the children. I won't say that it can't be done period, but that typically it won't happen without someone else picking up those rights/responsibilities through the courts/adoption.
