If they filtered their convo's, we'd never understand what they were trying to say. It would look more like this:

I **** am so *** ********....you get the point LOL...sorry love you both!!

You know, I gotta admit in real life I curse a lot...every other sentence probably. Lil Bobby reprimands me for it often. On here, I don't do it much...

Honestly, I doubt that the enabling of the language filter has anything to do with the people in this thread. If anything, I'd guess that it was that guy from England who put up one post that paul recommended we ignore. My next guess would be that it was something that Robin had been planning for awhile, and just got to now. Maybe she could tell us what's up with the filter? Don, do you know?

At any rate...I beg for the word list to be reconsidered. I know at least one parent that felt out of place enough to not post here because they couldn't post about being pissed off about **** without the filter making their statements unreadable. There's a lot of regular users who've complained the filter is too restrictive, and as Don's pointed out before the vocabulary blocks many innocent words while it lets harsher ones go.

I dunno...I'm disappointed, but yeah...I know it's not my site and I have no say...I'm just saying, please reconsider this...

Later,
Bobby

Edited to add - Hmmm...I expected pissed to be turned into "*****". Maybe it's just ****? Jeez...that makes no sense...

Yes, as you can see the language filter is on. It was just transferred over yesterday, for now it's the same list as was being used on the other site.
I also asked about some of the "tamer" words that get filtered, but don't really have an answer yet. Robin has been hard at work setting this site up, getting rid of bugs as a result of the transfer (like everything was duplicated and needed to be cleaned up) She's still getting accustomed to the new software also.
I'll try asking again soon about the word choices on the auto-edit list.
And meanwhile........hopefully everyone will not cheat the auto-filter. I normally wouldn't in the forum but for the purposes of the discussion in this thread a$$, f*ck, b*tch type things are still too readable as the words they are intended. We need to remember that Robin's policy, is that many parents on here may very well have their kids looking/reading over their shoulder is why the policies on language.

Honestly, I hate reading garbage like that anyway. Not to be a bummer or anything but when I read threads like that, it just makes this whole site look trashy and that's not what we're about. We have class people!! Smiler Smiler

Hey dont look at me. I created a whole new meaning for the idea of "moving furniture." But, honestly, I thought we were here to support each other--not to judge whether people were trashy or classy.

The classy comment was just a tease really. lol I'm not suggesting anyone is trashy though. I just think vulgar language makes this SITE look trashy. IMO

Sorry if it was misunderstood.

I think everyone here is smart enough to use more creative adjectives to explain and express themselves other than cuss words that are now being filtered.

Think about it the f....... car. YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH A CAR. in one but not with one.

Oh, I dunno...I used to have a 77 Monte Carlo, and I have an easier time thinking about doing *that* with that car than I do thinking about doing *that* with my ex wife Roll Eyes

Seriously though, I don't think anyone's looking to post blatant profanity. When the tame words are banned, however, it's easy for the person posting them to see them as if they're being condemned for using them. Honestly, looking at the typical socioeconomic status of most single parents...well...we're not sipping champagne at the country club, comparing polo ponies and investment portfolios. We're people that live in the real world where you say things like **** and ****. Saying the word **** and having it turned into ****, feels like you're being called trashy...

Anyway...I don't wanna beat a dead horse here...it sounds like we're been heard, so it's now up to Robin as to what she wants to do. Honestly, I'd like to see Don get his power to remove posts above anything else. Some of these ads need to go...

LOL Paul, I would have expected nothing else from you. Big Grin Thank goodness you are smart.

Bobby,
Sorry your interpretation is as such that feelings get hurt. It is what it is.
FYI the "country club" people can cuss with the best of them. I am sure Donald Trump has been known for a few cuss words when not on T.V.

I personally don't get my feelings hurt at all that Robin would like to keep the language in line.
Thanks Robin.

Heh...well, the country club thing was my attempt to be funny...

But I'm not talking about hurt feelings at all. I'm talking about people feeling like they don't belong somewhere, when they're prohibited from using language they feel is acceptable (tame even)...particularly when they're venting about things that are entwined with strong emotions. Nobody's saying that the language on the board should not be kept in line; we're saying a review of the allowed words would help make a place where the majority of posters don't say, "C'mon...I'm not allowed to say ****?"

Also, I'm guessing that **** and **** are banned more to prevent people from discussing the actions in a perverted way, than using them as all the members here have used them in their posts. Honestly, the only way to moderate content as opposed to voacbulary, is to have a moderator with the power to do something about offensive posts. Heh...which is why I vote for getting the magic wand back in Don's hand as opposed to enabling the language filter. I'm sure that's something that Robin's already working on though, and I do appreciate the work she's doing (and has done) on the site.

Later,
Bobby

Cool! Glad to hear.

Could you leave the ad about Single Dads on the talk show pilot up? The lady's still talking to me about going on the show, and if I end up making the trip I'd like to post about it in that thread Smiler
