Ok... It's been over 10 years since I've had a dog and there wasn't a pet food issue then like there is now. So, I'm curious, what do you feed your dogs?

The terrier will eat most foods like pedigree or Science diet... but the husky has wierd eating habits. He doesn't want anyone to know he's eating and he eats one kibble at a time LOL. Perhaps he's particular. I did catch him spitting out kibbles from his bowl.

Someone suggested Solid Gold barking at the moon which is about 40% protien.

When I was little ... I fed my dogs kibbles and bits! I used to get into the commercials on TV and I was convinced all dogs loved Kibbles and Bits. They made me buy it with my own allowance money .... Frowner oh well, they loved it.

I guess the pet food recall has me concerned since I think 20 years ago, all dog food were made from incredients from within the US.

I've tried a salmon based dog food sample which smells like cat food Eeker The terrier loves all the brands LMAO.

If the husky was on a raw or cooked diet... well... I imagine he will have to adjust Confused

BTW.... there are alot of dog food companies out there mailing out 1 - 2 lb sample bags of their products if you're wanting a training treat or just some free kibbles.

Hi Tessy,
Tried to answer last night but lost my net connection.

So...anyhow....

I've always fed my dogs the following:

Up to 3 years Old: Purina Puppy Chow
3 years and Older: Purina Dog Chow

Then in Winter I switch back to Puppy Chow because of the additional protein they need to maintain a Winter Coat.

My dogs have always lived a few years longer than the average, and I have strongly believe it was because of a consistent diet and exercise. Then recent studies showed what I had always believed, so I still strongly recommend the simple diet of Purina Chow products.

I do also a few times a month give them Scrambled Eggs and steamed rice instead of their food. Other great treats (all cooked) are:
Chicken liver and hearts / gizzards
Beef Soup Bones
Grilled Lamb Shanks
and some raw items such as:
Carrots / Celery / Apples but not too much as they can get an upset stomach easily.

Take note if you dog is eating grass, it's usually a indicator your dog has an upset stomach. Try to recall the most recent thing they ate if you see this and elimate or reduce from their diet. Back to the eating grass thing: that is like Ipecac for dogs...they will usually vomit soon afterward so be on the lookout for it. You may also see what it is, that make your dog feel sick then, as well.

I put the food down and pick it up within 10 -20 minutes. This teaches them to eat their food while it's there.

Huskies are notoriously picky and need to be treated just like you were training them for anything else.

Just dont feed them for 1-2 days and suddlenly they'll be wolfing down whatever you give them.

Via our year old female was really really picky. After 2 days...she eats anything we will put in front of her.

Remember, they're like little kids.....YOU decide what is best for them. Smiler

Hope that helps.

My dog eats IAMS large breed puppy food and will switch to their adult large breed when he's 2 or 3. Honestly I prefer to feed lamb and rice Natural Choice to my dogs, but its hard to find lamb and rice for puppies that I can afford.

Its really good for their systems and great for their coats if you feed lamb and rice.

I like feeding my dogs the lamb and rice formula also. Have you already gotten your free sample bag?

Also, if you go to their website... there's a contest for a year supply of dog food Wink

Thanks Paul!

It's been 3 years since I watched a dog and 10 years since I had my own. Frowner

Anyway, the husky is very different from almost all the dogs I have watched or had before. I just love the way he makes me get out and walk him and he loves the attention he gets when people look at him Roll Eyes

My mother started feeding her dogs steamed brown rice and eggs also. I think Rachel Ray has recipes for doggy dinners Razzer Quite interesting especially since many pets were getting sick off of dog food last year.

You noticed that too?
Also the majority of the recalls were for CANNED foods.
