Here in my local area there was a person driving a grade school buss and also drove for the Y.
This person has 3 domestic violence protection orders against them by 2 different partners and violated one of the orders, actually drove for 3 weeks with a warrant for their arrest. This person also was arrested but not tried for domestic violence in front of children. Since this person has no criminal record they have a card to drive a school bus which is required in addition to a CDL. How many of you know the standards of your area and do you think this person should be around kids? |

That's just crazy!! There are too many loop-holes when it comes to the law. Really, it just helps the guilty prove themselves innocent.

No, I don't think this person should have been allowed to be around kids. It's a little scary to think about what we constantly hear on the news, incidents like this just recently near here a school administrators being busted for child **** on their computer. Just goes to show I think how important it is that we do our best to educate our children what to do if they find themselves in a threatened situation. We can't be by their sides all of the time to protect them, and we should also be a little careful of scaring them too much about the people that they interact with like school employees, but teach them enough to know what sort of thing is not acceptable by anyone in there life and what to do if someone crosses that line.

Basicallyamy this person has no criminal record so a search of court records shows up nothing. All are in the civil records which you have to go to the courthouse and search by hand, using names and dates, a long process.
I think that the schools are going to come up short if some one else like this is around kids because if anything happens to the bus the police respond and when they check the drivers license then they would have to take the driver into custody in front of the kids. How would that look in the nightly news! |

Funny you should mention that. the local news last night had a story of an eight or nine year old girl who was choked by her bus driver...
Seems that more and more often you hear stories of neglect on buses, or of people driving them who really shouldn't be. |

Sounds as bad as my ex. Fired over po-rn from two different jobs and just got a temp job working as a computer tech support rep for the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Like he should be allowed around computers that are meant for school children!
School systems should have double and triple checks to prevent people like that from working around children. In my district, anyone over 21 with a HS diploma can be a substitute teacher. So long as you pass a felony check in the State of Oklahoma, you're in. No interview, nothing. All you have to do is attend a 2 hr "Bloodborne Pathogen" workshop (watch a cheesy video and answer a True/False quiz that they give you the answers to and isn't even graded) and fill out the application once per school year. There's NO OTHER QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY. I know this, because I sub on occassion when I don't have accounting clients. Who is going to protect our children when we can't? Thank you all for replying.
The person I was talking about is my ex. When I talked to the school administrator about it ,it got back to my ex who brought it up in court and the judge (a grandmother) said I tried to get her fired. This is what my 3 youngest have to live with. |

A person that works with children or disabled adults/elderly..have to pass a fingerprint clearance by the FBI. I had to do it to work in preschools and with disabled adults-and if I remember correctly-they do ask the person applying if they have domestic violence charges-either guilty or pending. Sometimes it doesn't come up right away if they are still going to court but if it does I guess that's up to the people processing the card and looking at the persons history.
If she's found guilty-she definately wouldn't be able to work with kids...so I'd let the school know right away. Still, I would think having a restraing order against her would be alarming-but I don't know the exact rules about that..good luck to you and the kids though! |

I was talked into dropping the charge "in the best interest of my kids" by people from church and the victims advocate.
The original charge was misdemeanor assault raised to a felony because of kids, and was witnessed by one of my adult sons, but the DAs office routinely downgrades them to harassment, for some classes of people anyway. |
