Just a quick question here; If my ex is 26 going on 27 and he's in a "relationship"(and just recently got pregnant a 17 yr old girl) what is that considered. Is that legal?

Depends on the state. Some states consider 16 a consenting adult. I know someone in WI who had *** with a 17 year old and got charged with *** with a minor over the age of 16, but did not have to be placed on the *** offender list. On a personal note, I think it's creepy, a 17 year old is still a child no matter how mature they are.

Thanks Jessi I think its really creepy too. I keep thinking, she was 13 when our son was born Eeker. Our(my son really he hasnt been around very much) son is almost four now, so if he comes back in his life sometime(which he is starting to call again alot) thats really scary...I dont want him around my son. Thats a warning sign and a huge red flag in my opinion. I wonder what the law in texas is.

I agree that it depends on the state--but most states see a 17 year old as a consenting adult. I have a November birthday so I graduated highschool 5 months before I turned 18. I also always dated older men...most of my boyfriends at 17/18 were 25-30. I did not find guys my age mature enough to have anything in common with me. If I was his ex, I too would not be happy that he got a 17 year old pregnant. But as far as it being child molestation--I go back and forth on this issue because there is just to much gray area!

I think that this kind of thing actually happens often and again, depends on the state. Check your state guidelines. However, does that mean that you want him to get into trouble because he is with a 17 year old? Yes while they are not exactly "adults" what he does is his own problem. Let him hang himself.

Hello Everyone,
For a man of that age to be involved with a child(let's face it that is a child) on that level is sick. Not to mention if you have children with this person you have to ask, what's going to be the influence your child will gain from a parent like this. Although 17yrs, having a sexual relationship with her may still be illegal.

I wonder what her parents think? If that was my child, I'd be grabbing the shotgun.

I've heard a few things about laws like this. Some states will say a specific age is "consenting" but ALSO goes on to say if the other party is so many years older, it is considered child molestation.

"Texas
The age of consent in Texas is 17 (Texas Penal Code Section 21.11). However , "...It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the actor...was not more than three years older than the victim and of the opposite ***...(and) did not use duress, force, or a threat against the victim at the time of the offence" and is not a registered *** offender {Section 21.11(b)}.

Section 21.12 further prohibits all sexual contact between an employee of a school (including educators) and a student enrolled at the primary or secondary school where said employee works. No age is specified by the statute (thus, even if the student has reached consent age of 17, it is still a violation), and violations are a second degree felony."
from Wikpedia

http://www.dallascriminaldefenselawyerblog.com/2008/05/..._of_consent_law.html <~~~this is interesting to read as well

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Crime-Law-Enforcement-341/Texas-Age-Consent.htm <~~here's a case in which the guy is 19 and she is 15 almost 16. This one states that even though the age of consent is 17, if the other party is 3+ years older then it is illegal

I think it is creepy too. My ex, 27, got with a 18 or 19 year old that already had a child. When I first say her (while we were "working on our relationship", or at least I was and he said he was) I got worried for a moment and had to ask him if she was legal. She sure did not look it. Of course I have always looked really young for my age. In fact when we got together, people thought I looked as young as 13 (I was 18). Maybe my ex and your ex are just into really young girls. An explanation for this is that young girls are easier to manipulate than women our age.
As far as it being illegal: I believe doctors are required by law to report cases of underage ***. If it was illegal for him to be with her, then the authorities should have already been informed by the girls DR. This is not something you should worry about.

I too got pregnant at 17 and he was 23. What he has done may be legal but is selfish and disgusting. As a grown man he should have known what he was doing. He has more life experiences that have prepared him to be mature enough to prevent this. (of course he is obviously stupid and didnt get it but at least he had the chance to learn)Sure she could have prevented the pregnancy by herself but when you are 17 your views are so distorted, yes I could have prevented it too but he was older and "he loved me" and we were going to be a "family", I trusted him. You havent even realized that more than half the people that are your friends in HS wont even be around in the next few yrs. You havent paid bills you have no sense of reality 10 yr down the road. Well here i am 10 yrs later and its definately sucked for both me and my kid.I got to spend my 18-20s being a single mom fighting for my kid with a man who was able to continue his life experiences while I raised his kid. What he has done is awful but he did it to her. Not your son or you. He has just robbed a child of a chance. I wouldnt worry about it until he gives your son dating tips or starts dating his friends. She will figure it out and not be around long. They dont want to have kids with 17 yr old they just want to practice. He'll be over it pretty quick leaving this poor kid to raise a kid. I hate when grown men prey on younger girls, shows a lot of character....

At the end of the day she is going to have your kids sibling and have her heart ripped out. you or at least your kid may benefit by you reaching out to her. Easier said then done, I am sure Smiler
Good luck!!

I f a guy that old was after my 17 year old it would be on like donkey kong. But I recently ran into a friend whose wife left him and he was dating a 18 year old. I think he got mad at me for making fun of him. I asked if he wanted to go to the bar... he said sure... and I go good. Your gf can wait in the car and be the designated driver lol. He didnt find it funny lol

Oh whatever, I think that's funny. But I do have a grudge against 17 year olds. The original break up between my boyfriend and I (who is also the father of this baby) was due to him "trading me in" for a 17 year old.
He took pictures of her prom for bajezus sake.

Well we're not that old.
He was going through I'm an idiot crisis more likely. He was 23, so really not that much of age difference...but still...she bragged about doing e. I was bragging about getting my own apartment...
Oy.

Thank you guys for all the responses. To me it is very creepy, even if it is at "the age of consent", there is too much of an age difference. A part of me feels sorry for the girl, because she hasnt known my ex very long(since April), so she can't possibly know what she got herself into. She can have him and all his drugs, issues, and drama. Good ridiance! lol, Baerhiel I laughed when I imagined both our exes at the high school prom, what they can drink fake champane together? Just playing devils advocate...but is it the age difference or just her age? My parents are 13 years apart in age. Granted they got married when my mom was 30 or so, but still if you think about it my Dad (step-dad) was in 12th grade when my mom was in kindergarten. I think that as a society we only see it as wrong b/c of her age, not b/c of the diffence in their age.

On the other hand he's an idiot for dating a seventeen year old and getting her pregnant at his age he should no better. I agree if I had a daughter I'd be doing everything I could to protect her from guys like this.

But it's not the age of consent because of the age difference.....

Have you talked to your lawyer about this by chance? I just worry that if you don't say something about this or have it reported in some way it could look bad on you when it comes to custody and such....maybe I'm talking out of my butt however, I would always want to be one step ahead.
